No offense to OP, I but really hate stuff like this. This is a semi interesting statistical event, but it's not an "NHL Record"

The worst one I saw was on ESPN some years ago, a player (Sprewell?) "set an NBA record for the most points scored by a former Knick in his first game as a visitor at MSG after being traded away"

If it’s not a record then who has 8?

If no one has 8...guess what pal, it’s a record.

Quesnel, B.C.
Technically a record, but it is funny how it makes him look like a one-trick pony or somethin. He's not, but I see why other fanbases are calling it trivia and cracking jokes.

Reality is he's on 1st line even strength for a reason. He's still a rookie- lotta rookies and vets are still goalless at even strength this time of year. He's looked good, but he also has one weapon and situational advantage where he's just deadly. That leads to his PP results outpacing the rest of his play.

You summarized my thoughts in a far more efficient manner. Well done sir. VO is much more than a PP specialist, he simply has been able to take advantage of his sniping ability. Tony Tanti & Mike Bossy made amazing careers from similar skills, while also possessing several ancillary skills.

Cheers

Yeah it’s a piece of trivia that well all forget tomorrow not much of a ‘record’ but the player looks really good.

Wonder how impactful he will be in the NHL. The shot from the circle on the PP is deadly.

Omg he has a primary assist?!

Yeah and has 7-4-11 in his first 12 games. He can score every damn goal on the PP if he is scoring at that ridiculous clip. Dude is going to score 30 goals this year. He is the Calder front runner.

80 plus goals in a season is a record...this is nothing.

I’m sure last year when Reilly broke Bobby Orr’s “record” cor most points by a defensemen to start the season through 7 games (or whatever obivious Mumbo jumbo that was) you didn’t care in the slightest how off looking that statistic was, you probably were in awe!

I remember when Tim and sid were talking about Reilly last year they said “he’s breakkng records set by Bobby Orr” I chuckled...because people keep track of to start the season through seven games most points per position.

By the way
NHLcom reads OLOFSSON sets nhl record.

Not exactly made up Bobby.

By the way him having scored in five different games already this season is more impressive.

Watch out Ovechkin, your time as the PP god is over!:sarcasm:

All jokes aside - good for him! Nice to see a fellow Swede doing well.

That's not really a record you'd necessarily want, but he's good enough, I'm wondering if he might set some desirable records (most PP goals in a stretch, etc...).

My dad (hilariously) rants against these, and he has a point- but they're still technically records, just ones whose significance is in question. This one.. ya, kinda silly. Tells you he's good on the powerplay, but the requirement you not score at even strength.. now people read into it so he's bad at even strength. Oof. Either way, other sources call it a record, technically it can be considered as such, don't shoot the messenger (OP).

PS- "Most wins by a pitcher over 30 in Saturday night games, holy goddamnit, why don't cha throw in his height while you're at it?"- my dad.

With his goal today, Victor Olofsson became the first player in history whose first seven NHL goals were all scored on the PP. He had been tied with a few other players at 6.

Possible darkhorse Calder candidate, if he stays on PP1 and on the top line with Eichel and Reinhart? Or will his age and the possible "PP specialist" label some may put on him work against him?
Meanwhile the Anaheim Ducks team has zero PP goals thru 6 games

Technically it's a record, but it's kinda clickbaity to call it that. You can invent a lot of record by putting simple limitations on them. Fun stat and good for him, but not much more than that.

wowee! a primary assist!
Yup. According to some around here, secondary assists are more useless than +/- so I thought I'd point it out for anyone that didn't watch the game and assumed VO was only a powerplay specialist.
