Teams can't fully take away his shot because Eichel is opposite him, it's been really really fun to watch.
There's just way too much h talent on the first power play. Dahlin is a beast at moving the puck from the blue line. Eichel can rip it or sneak a pass to an open man. Reinhart is a great net front presence.

I think the impossibility of maintaining his nigh goal-per-game pace on the power-play will work against him. This is almost certainly going to be the best stretch of his season, maybe even his career. Voters aren't going to recall (or care about) this in early April when he's a 24 year old rookie with ~30 goals & ~50 pts.

With his goal today, Victor Olofsson became the first player in history whose first seven NHL goals were all scored on the PP. He had been tied with a few other players at 6.

Possible darkhorse Calder candidate, if he stays on PP1 and on the top line with Eichel and Reinhart? Or will his age and the possible "PP specialist" label some may put on him work against him?

Definitely a dark horse, but age and usage, and I'd lean more towards the latter work against him.

Technically a record, but it is funny how it makes him look like a one-trick pony or somethin. He's not, but I see why other fanbases are calling it trivia and cracking jokes.

Reality is he's on 1st line even strength for a reason. He's still a rookie- lotta rookies and vets are still goalless at even strength this time of year. He's looked good, but he also has one weapon and situational advantage where he's just deadly. That leads to his PP results outpacing the rest of his play.

How does his usage (top line and on the PP1 unit) work against him? Age, draft hype, market size, and (possibly) missing the playoffs could work against him, but I dont think anyone gives a forward any negatives for being on the top line in his first season.

He legitimately has one of the best shots I’ve ever seen. Truly elite.

He worked his butt off to develop the other parts of his game too.

Ya, that's where I'll fawn a bit- normally I think PP guys are kinda.. you take your best shooters and playmakers, and sometimes those guys are barely better than the dudes who'd replace them- that's why some people discount PP points. It's a lot of points spread over 2 lines instead of 4.

But Olofsson's shot is.. it's up there. Feel like I'll catch hell for it, but I haven't seen someone do it that consistently outside of.. another dude whose last name starts with O. Again, small sample size, but that shot is friggin nuts. Quick accurate cannon of a wrister and clapper, fun to watch.

Having Dahlin and Eichel out there doesn't exactly hurt, either. Teams largely haven't solved them yet, obviously the numbers will go down, but it's still a solid setup going forward.

I'm speaking solely on the past 6 games, wherein the lack of 5v5 scoring may work against him.

Ah Neal and Olofsson, two guys i predicted would be front runners for the rocket...

Mcdavid and draisaitl.

Eichel and dahlin.

Both guys are good shooters but fell into playmaking heaven as well.

That's some cool trivia, with that shot it's only a matter of time until he scores an even strength goal. Sabres PP gonna be good this year

Yeah he lead the SHL In goals and also score d 30 goals and 63 Pts in the ahl last year. Now in two very short sample size half dozen stints in the NHL is PPG, dudes a legit player.

Victor Olofsson is the real deal. His shot at every level he's played pro at, SHL, AHL and now, the NHL is lethal. The kid was slow cooked by Sabres organization, stayed in the SHL until last year, when he made the jump to the AHL and made the club this off season. Many Swedish hockey analysts will tell you he is a line 1/2 LW'er all day long.

Buffalo hit on an early aged sleeper in a late round, good for them, and that 1st line they have, Eichel centering Reinhart with Olofsson is just a treat to watch.
Congrats to Goalofsson for the record, wishing much success for the kid as he grows in to his NHL role.

Underrated comment.

This is exactly IMO what worked so well for draisaitl and this year Neal.

When they get the pp set up it is a real problem. Eichel from one dot with his shot and cross ice pass. Oloffson on the other ripping that ridiculous shot. Dahlin quarterbacking from the back end. Reinhart in front where he’s great to tip in and cash in rebounds...and if the puck has to go down low is a fantastic distributor. And if you manage to neutralize all of them all that’s left is a 40 goal scorer last year zooming around the slot waiting to see if a puck comes to him.

It’s just a perfect mix with two guys who can shoot like that on their offhand dot and the level of passing three of them (Eichel, Dahlin, Reinhart) are known for.

Also I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it but there’s another funny bit about Oloffson’s record. He also has 4 assists in his brief NHL career. And those are somehow all at even strength.

No matter where they’re coming from...dude has played 12 NHL games...and has 7 goals and 4 assists. 11 in 12 is a pretty ok start to a career.

I haven't even heard about this guy before. That's impressive for him to get this many PP goals, congrats!

Their PP setup has really become complete with Dahlin instead of Risto, and VO on the right side opposite Eichel instead of shit bag Okposo. Dahlin has unreal patience and vision with the puck, and both VO and Eichel can absolutely rip it on their off wings. There is just no way to completely neutralize all 3 of them. Its a treat to watch.

Probably because he doesn't have a chance to get an assist on the PP, since he's the one scoring all the goals...

Buffalo had the best powerplay in the entire he three years ago when it was Eichel ristolainen Reinhart Kane ROR

I think skinner and if Johansson, olofsson, dahlin, mistestadt whatever they choose they have more options now

No offense to OP, I but really hate stuff like this. This is a semi interesting statistical event, but it's not an "NHL Record"

The worst one I saw was on ESPN some years ago, a player (Sprewell?) "set an NBA record for the most points scored by a former Knick in his first game as a visitor at MSG after being traded away"
