Not the worst thing for management since this guy looks like he's busting pretty severely. Now they can talk him up without having to conveniently ignore the fact he's not very good.

Could be he needed knee fixed to have any chance to get better?
Still pretty young kid to totally write off.

Funny how this thread is slowly turning into yet another anti-Benning/management thread. And what is with all this "bad attitude" talk? Par for the course I suppose; if EP's concussion had been more severe we would have posters here blaming it on Benning or the medical staff or Gudbranson or Gagner or Willie or...

Right, because when Benning makes a shit pick despite all information said otherwise, he's completely free of any responsibilities.

And before you make up more BS, I never saw anyone blaming Gudbranson Gagner or Willie for EP40's injury. Gudbranson was scrutinized for failing to respond, and rightfully so. Gagner is a waste of money and a contract slot; Willie is a disgrace to all NHL coaches everywhere. Now tell me, who will blame any of these guys for EP40's injuries?

Funny how you of all people would make a scene like this when Gillis is being blamed for everything wrong with the team despite having brought the team within the cusp of championship, won GM of the year and hasn't touched the organization for half a decade.

Not OJ's fault he's picked at 5th, sure. But if you gonna say Benning did a good job with the pick? I think you confused with reality with a parallel universe where pigs are flying everywhere.

Out of the top 16 picks in that draft , 15 of them have played an NHL game.

Guess who the 1 player who hasn’t is?

Hint : Olli Juolevi.

And not like our defence should be hard to crack. The pick was HORRIBLE

Hell
So the Juolevi situation goes from bad to worse with his development being setback even further. Strange how a few weeks ago him sitting out was described as being nothing more than a minor injury and how he's out a year, or maybe not that strange for such a dysfunctional organization.

December 3rd GMJB said he won’t need surgery. Here we are 2 weeks later ...

I'm no surgeon, but is a torn meniscus a less severe injury than torn anterior or exterior ligaments? And if so, why would the recovery time be a full six months?

The big concern with Juolevi is his skating. There's no doubt about his vision and passing skills once he has the puck. But puck retrieval and being able to skate away from forechecking pressure were his biggest weaknesses even at the AHL level. Now he's lost another full year of development.

Over the years on these boards, many posters were more concerned about Virtanen busting hard. But imo, the real danger was always Juolevi. Given the perilous state of the blueline prospect pool, if he doesn't pan out it's a huge black-hole in the rebuild.

Feel bad for the kid, and hope he recovers fully. This is not the time for the "bad pick", and "should have taken Tkachuk" posts... come on guys we all know that already. Not his fault he was taken 5th overall.

Wasn’t aware Olli was going to read this thread therefore did not get the memo we need to say speedy recovery so he sees it.

No one was hoping for this and absolutely no one has blamed him for being picked where he was.

Surgery is always the last resort..they tried rehabilitation first..It wasn't until Juolevi saw a specialist in Colorado the other day ,that they opted for surgery...Sorry that Dr Benning didn't get it right the first time.

Good job we got Pettersson and not Vilardi.

Then we move on. Many high picks don’t work out. Filatov, brule, Barker, dal cole, reinhart, Bryan Allen, it will suck if a 5th pick doesn’t pan out.

Obviously long shots pan out all the time. But often they don't. And this guy is a long shot at this point.

There are definitely posters here who are to some degree emotionally invested in Juolevi and certain other prospects acquired or drafted by the current management failing. Whatever, it's an internet message board, but it's there and it's obvious.

Bryan Allen played over 700 games in the NHL - much of it as a #4. While he didn't meet expectations, he doesn't belong in that list of yours.

I’d recently been thinking it was time to trade Olli. Decent AHL numbers, high draft pick, “lots of potential”. I’d imagine somebody would offer something decent for him.

Not anymore.

Players like him usually get pennies on the dollar. Which would be par for the Benning trade angle but not a good look for a team still so far away from competing.

You do realize this is literally 2 years in a row where he is having major surgery right? Another summer of not working out or developing his game.

so your saying he's done? yes or no. answer me with a yes or no answer. btw, he is expected to be "fully ready for training camp" so I wouldn't say his summer is done. Just love hfboards doing the doomsday shit on other teams prospects. f***ing love it. HFboards never change.

Exactly this, for this injury they don't always know until they're in there. Seen it happen often with football players where this is a much more common injury. No reason to be mad at the Canucks doctors here, just an unfortunate injury.

Same day that Juolevi was hurt so was Jalen Chatfield.
- lower body injury
- Walking cast and more diagnostic work to do.
- Broken bone and out 4-6 weeks.
- Latest report. GM Johnson says months.

That's 3 considered by Vancouver top D-prospects and in the lineup every game if healthy. 2 gone for the season and one out for months. 2 left and you can bet the opponents all know which 2 they are.
