sounds just like cory..... was he a starter before he got here?

That's a terrible comparison when you look at the numbers Cory put up as Luongo's backup. Plus Cory was a starter at 27 with us (and actually started 30 of 48 games in Vancouver the year before).

Yeah, Cory's play before becoming a starter was also better than Kinkaid's play so far in his career.

I'm not arguing that Kinkaid isn't better than Cory now. It's a wash at the very worst. I do think he's the best goalie in the organization, I just don't think he's nearly as good as Cory used to be.

Josefson's collarbone injury in 2011 required surgery and was out 3 months, but was expected to be out 4 months.
Mueller's collarbone injury last year did not require surgery (I think) and was out 2 and a bit.

yeah, Id bet that Butcher injury is the collarbone

his left shoulder crashed into the boards and then he wasn't able to extend his right arm

It does matter when extending a player for multiple years.

The last thing you wanna do is extend a player for several years after a couple of career years.

That's how David Clarkson contracts happen.

I think he deserves our respect and confidence right now too, but will he deserve our confidence in 2-3 years from now? That's what we need to think about when re-signing him.

Regardless, I still won't be convinced that this isn't a one-off if Cory does turn out to have a great year. I think he might have one more good year in him, but I just think it won't be sustained.
Yeah. Perfect day is Cory back being Cory and Keith ready to be the Keith we are seeing. Today is today though and I am comfortable with our current guy in net. It may change but that's not unusual in the goalie world from year to year or even day to day sometimes

Kinkaid has 53 wins in 98 career starts, 6 shutouts and a .914 SV%.

That's a 54% win%
He's got 30 wins in last in his last 45 games played...

Corey has never won 30 games in a season. Neither has Keith but he certainly deserves the opportunity to try.

I still don't like your wins argument, as Cory had a good winning percentage on a good team and had a lousy one on some poor teams his first three seasons as a Devil.

Then he had lousy winning percentages his next two seasons. One on a terrible team and another on a decent team. And even though he was a bad in the year on the decent team, he still won more games than he lost in regulation. Cory was a MUCH better goaltender in 14-15 than he was in 17-18, yet he still finished with a better record in 17-18 than he did in 14-15. Does that mean that he was better in 17-18 than he was in 14-15?

I'm more concerned with the last two years, which have Kinkaid outplaying Schneider and being the better goalie and although in not as many games played, still a sizable amount of games played. Cory was a really good goaltender his first 3 years here. His last two have been very mediocre at best.

And if Kinkaid maintains this and becomes our starter for the next few years, I will gladly eat crow on still being skeptical. Goalies are just so volatile that I don't think we can assume his trajectory will remain the same.

He said ''No update'' last year after Hall sat out for like 2-3 games, and I'm sure he's said it a few other times over minor injuries.

So I wouldn't get bent out of shape over hearing ''No update'' and thinking it's necessarily long term or serious.
