The New Liskeard Hockey Team used to play in the Temiskaming Professional Hockey League (The first professional hockey league in Ontario) from 1906-09 and 1910-11 with their home Arena being the New Liskeard Skating Rink built in 1905 to around 1930.
The League consisted of teams from Cobalt, Haileybury, North Bay, and Latchford with
Ambrose O'Brien owning both the Haileybury Comets and Cobalt Silver Kings franchises.
In 1908 New Liskeard would win the league title for the first and only time.
The league challenged for the
Stanley Cup twice in 1909 and was rejected twice by the Stanley Cup trustees because of the 'ineligible' players on Cobalt, the 1909 champion.
