Again, how is Yak supposed to take that positively?

Eakins is trying to spin benching Yak for the last 15 minutes of the game as a positive for him.

He doesn't have to take it positively....he just need to understand that to get ice time at the end of the game when his team is leading he has to be somewhat competent defensively...it's a message .....and if yak is as competitive as we all know then he wants to be on the ice in key situations......Yaks confidence is in the toilet right now...on both sides of puck....Eakins was probably just trying to get him through the game with out being the direct result of the tying goal......just baby steps with a 20 yr old .....imagine how the media/fans/teammates/ would react if Yak missed his coverage on a tying goal with 57 sec left.....and the kids confidence would take another hit...

I don't see how that's any worse for his confidence than telling the kid he isn't good enough to play the last 15 minutes of a game.

And add to it, during those 15 minutes, he has to watch other terrible defensive players giving the puck away for tying goals in the last minute.

You can't teach accountability selectively. It's everyone or no one. Yak just sees other players getting fed ice time while committing worse turnovers than he does. That isn't going to teach him anything.

He is not good enough defensively to play late in the third with the team up by a goal...that pretty obvious....it was pretty much a must win game as u can get in November.....Sometimes u just have to not put someone in a position to fail...especially someone struggling with confidence......baby steps...especially for a 20 yr old that that might be our worst defensive forward.....not many coaches will play poor defensive forwards with a 1 goal lead in the 3rd...with the current mental state of the Oilers players ..all the team problems...can u imagine the knives coming out if Yaks defensive play was the direct result of the tying goal.....just remember how we felt about Dubnyk when he let in the tying goal.....could be an even bigger problem for a 20 yr old rookie to get over that has his confidence in the toilet for the first time he has probably ever played hockey

It could just be a confidence thing for him. The others can deal with making a ****** turnover, while maybe Yak wants crawl into a fetal position every time it happens
