Rieder scored one of the most amazing goals I've ever seen. It was at the Junior B Worlds in I think 2011 vs Austria. He took the center ice faceoff and then stickhandled through the entire Austrian team and scored. I hope he does well for you guys. Was hoping he'd sign with NJ, but seeing him with Draisaitl should be fun.

What side does he prefer to play or which side has he found the most success? I want him to play with Leon, but I don't want to force him onto the right side because we need to accommodate Lucic. If anything, I'd rather Lucic play on the off wing and focus on Toby excelling. I genuinely believe he could be a 25/25 guy, PK specialist playing alongside Leon. I know it's a reach, but I think Leon is jacked about the signing as is a guy on a one year deal looking to make bank.

And where is the competition in camp? Who's fighting up front? Yamo vs. Rattie? Kass at his salary is a lock, Drake might have to look over his shoulder, but who is behind him? Marody? I hope we find one or two guys to bring in on a PTO (Ennis? Chimera?), how to we get a fire lit under the ass of some of the bubble guys? I'm including Strome and Kaira and Pulijarvi...I know it seems stupid, but I want competition in camp. I think we have some degree of that on the backend and wonder if some legit contenders come in on a PTO. Sustr? Long shot he doesn't get signed. Demelo? Who has to EARN their spot...that part worries me...

This roster isn't going to make the playoffs. We have no depth and worse, we don't even have a good 23 man roster. We are going in with the exact same strategy as last hear. Pray for meaningful maturation and no injuries. Ugh.

Although our depth isn’t the best, it literally takes one or two players stepping up for it to look good. If any of Rattie, Puljujärvi or Yamo step up and contribute 45-50 points or so next season, all of a sudden our depth isn’t much of an issue.

McDavid is good for 90 to 100 points
Drai is good for 70+ points
Nuge if healthy and playing with Connor all season long can eclipse 60+ points imo, maybe even more.
Lucic I expect to bounce back at 40+ points
Rieder I think can hit 40+ points playing with Drai potentially more. Stoked to see how he does and like you said, I can see him being a 25/25 guy playing with Drai.
Strome is good for 35 points or so.

The Capitals had 2 80+ scorers, and a total of 5 players that had more than 40 points. The Oilers can easily match that level of offence, we just need to be a lot better defensively.

Cast off from a bottom feeder. Don't see this as a good signing. At least get someone from a decent team.

At least Chiarelli didn't give away anybody this year.

That would be an incredibly odd way to build a team. Just sign all of the colin Frasers and Ben eagers lmao

seems like Reider probably wanted a 1 year deal to gear up for a pay day next summer. Chiarelli probably offered him significant time in the top six and on the PP, and he was likely backed up by the coaches on that.

I have no problem with that either. Reider on a show-me deal means he will be shooting tons and giving a little extra every night. Imo that's why it was smart for Washington not to re-sign Carlson too early. Make him hungry for his next deal.

Agreed, he's flying on that goal at 8:09. I expect him to be quick out there for us. Full offseason to train and his ankle should finally be fully healed from surgery last summer.
Yup he was at least 10 feet behind 2 players at the blueline and 20 feet ahead of all 3 when he took the shot .

I have believed since last season that a complimentary player for Drai is our biggest need. I think Chia may have hit a homerun with Rieder and Puljujarvi will also find a home with them

I have to agree with ya. You would have to think they guaranteed Rieder some playing time with Drai to sign here. We could have a great combo of Rieder-Drai-Puju. Reider also plays center so it helps having 2 centers out there, same as 1st line. I'm going out on a limb and say that Puju scores 27 goals this year if on this line. Playoffs will be back.
I don't wanna wish the summer away because we are finally get great weather back here in NS (30's) , but bring on hockey season. I'll be there for season's home opener on Oct 18 against Bruins

Sounds like he had a injury from what I heard. With a full summer of training and a chip on his shoulders he could really break out for us. Love the signing still and great work by Chia.
This may go a long way to keeping Leon happier too.

With the Rangers he played mostly RW until his last year when he played a fair bit down the middle. With the Yotes he has played both sides. I think it is fair to say that he would be comfortable on either side.

I think the depth is actually pretty decent. The problem is that some of the talent is raw. Guys like Puljujarvi, Yamamoto and even Rattie could all take a big step next year but that is not a certainty.

I use to laugh when people on here said Rieder was slow after the Oilers drafted him. The guy won the OHL fastest skater contest and was a break away machine. The injury could have slowed him down but he's not going to be slow. If he plays with Leon his speed will be fine.

Quite excited about this guy coming back. Super high on him.

All goes well (fingers and toes crossed), we can finally have a proper duo on the second line.

McD-Nuge // Drai-Reider are good bases and if our youngsters in Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, Aberg, Rattie step up or even a rebound year from Lucic, we might actually have 2 scoring lines to roll out here.

Even if the injury has long-term effects and he can't be that 15 minute a night 15g 15a player, you still make this signing.

He has a unique skillset with some untapped potential. Even if he can't become a top 6 option, there is always room elsewhere on this roster. Really up to him where he ends up.

He was well on his way to 20 last year until McLellan decided to make some puzzling decisions with him. Get him away from Lucic. Give him 16-17 minutes per night in the top 6 instead of 13, and more than 44 seconds per night on the 2nd PP (and actually play him at the spot on the PP where he should be) and I guarantee you he will hit 20+ goals this season.

Ill give credit where its due. This is the type of signing that I really like. Had a down year this year but mosly due to really low PDO and shooting %. He had great underlying stats before and was able to produce really solid amounts. Hes basically what we hope Cagguila can ever be. I would have been fine with a 2 or even 3 year deal. Its low risk and high reward. He could be a really god 3rd line player with 2nd line upside.

Exactly. I remember the game Kyperos was raving about Puju and saying he has arrived. Todd started coaching like Eakins and lost Puju. He is a top 6 player , play him in top 6

100% agree, I think having a summer to actually train will be good for him aswell

Have to think he flanks Drai on the left with one of Pulju or Yamo on the right. He was a favorite of mine on the Rangers. He doesn't do anything incredibly well, but he has good all around skills and some quick feet which makes him pretty effective.
