I doubt they're expecting this guy to do much more than play in the AHL all season. Probably just doubling up on Bear here to increase the chances one of them can crack the NHL lineup. Low risk high reward signing.

What's everyone's guesses on floor and ceiling?

My pessimistic, management-hating, know-nothing-about-the-player FLOOR prediction: Philip Larsen
My hopeful, rose-coloured lens, overvaluing-in-hopes-of-striking-gold CEILING prediction: Torey Krug

pretty much this. I expect he'll a little bit better than Philip Larsson. Maybe the same the Frenchman that just left.

in other words... meh.

If these guys would have engaged more we'd find quite the gem. Problem is these guys don't play hard a lot of the times.

Hopefully Persson can be more aggressive

He sounds more like a Brad Hunt than Larsen. :P

I'm pretty hopeful for him.

I'm always a huge fan of players on steep development curves. Guys like Scheifele or Johansen in their draft years, for example.

This guy was playing part-time in a league that's worse than basically the ECHL equivalent in Sweden last season and was the best defenseman on the best team in the SHL as well as one of the best defensemen in the entire league this season.

That's crazy.

I just love the story. It's like the Accountant in Chicago, but way better. Guy played hockey part-time a year ago and now has a NHL contract? Just amazing.

Oh Chia can overpay even on an ELC

925K max plus bonuses. Guys like this should get very little. The worry is he signs him for max bonuses

Chia can’t be that stupid. Right?

Do you know what hitting the bonuses means?

Let's worry about Persson's bonuses when he plays and scores as top 4 D on the oilers and later a top D im the league...

If Persson gets max bonuses and is able to hit any Schedule B bonuses(examples being Calder finalist, Norris finalist, top 10 in goals, assists, ice time, etc.), Chia would look anything but stupid.

If Persson hits Schedule B bonuses than Chia will have found that RHS pp specialist with an ELC pickup. That's an absolute best case scenario for the Oilers.

We should then be glad that it only cost an elc and full bonus and then be worried about our cap the next year when he will be worth real money.

But that's an okay problem to have because it means we have a real good player.

No risk besides taking up a contract slot for a potentially big reward based on what I'm reading about the rate at which he's been improving. Even if all he is is an AHL guy who gets a couple NHL callups, depth is never a bad thing.
