Definite NHL talent. Has upside as a 5 but probably ends up as a 6 on most teams.

Best things about his game is his offensive ability from the back end. Great passer, but has trouble passing in and through traffic. His shot is good, not great. Don’t expect a lot of points to be goals, but rather passing would be his niche in the NHL. His offensive hockey IQ is criminally underrated. He knows how to maneuver in the ozone along with dictating the pace and play while in it. He also doesn’t have to have the puck in the ozone to be effective.

Bad thing about his game is his D ability. Some scouts say it’s serviceable, but it really isn’t. Developmental coaches will really have to work on it. Another really bad area of his game is his strength. If he makes it into the NHL next year as a tryout, there is no question he’d be the weakest player in the league. He plays really bad along the boards and looks lost in D coverage.

Overrated aspect of his game: Skating (average at best)
Underrated aspect of his game: Hockey IQ (offensive IQ to be specific)

Overall, he looks to be a great pick up for the Oilers. His niche in the NHL will be a 4th forward along with a PP2 QB. Most likely situated as a #5 or 6 with great offensive ability. Don’t be upset about defensive lapses or miscues... he’s just not good at defense. You get him for his offensive ability.

He's having a great year again despite him no longer having Petterson playing with him. Moves the puck very quickly and great with it on his stick. Will be a sheltered minutes third pairing PP specialist which just so happens to be exactly what EDM could use on their third pair rather than all the plugs they've collected.

Interesting Idea above to play him as a fourth line forward / PP QB...

The Oiler hate is strong. :shakehead

Why mock a 1 year, million dollar, signing of a 24 year old RHD who just posted 34 points in 51 games playing in the Swedish Elite league last season and is on his way to duplicate that, as the 2nd highest scorer on his team this season.

It's like the Oilers don't need any scoring contributions from their back end... especially from the right side.

This is the exactly the kind of moves that need to be made to get some low cost contract in our lineup. If he can be average defensively and provide some offense from the back end then great. If not, it's a 1 year low cost gamble.

The Edmonton Oilers are not going to be fixed with big and stupid gambles.

So does it sound like he is pencilled into the lineup this upcoming season? I see his contract is a 1 way deal too.

Could end up being a great addition if his puck moving ability is as good as his stats show and the articles i have read.

He’s competing with Jones, Bouchard, Bear, Samorukov, Lagesson, and Manning for 2 spots.

Jones and Bouchard likely either make it as the 6, or go down, with Jones being the most likely to make the team out of everyone.

Bear is probably similar, but I could see him being used as the #7 to try and get him more games before next year when he has to pass through waivers. Samorukov is probably a near lock to go down.

Most likely Persson is competing with Lagesson, and Manning for the 7th dman spot, with an outside shot at him taking the #6 role.

I think he’s got the inside track.

Basically there are two roster spots available

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-XXX
YYY-Benning
ZZZ

Kris Russell will either be in XXX or YYY.

Caleb Jones, Joel Persson, William Lagesson, Ethan Bear and Evan Bouchard will be competing for wherever Russell isn’t, and ZZZ. Bouchard being the youngest probably starts in Bakersfield but I doubt he will be there long.

He's a frontrunner for the 6/7 spot. Manning is way behind the pack, he was riding the pine in the AHL last year.

Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Benning
Russel - Bear/Jones/Bouchard
Persson

Expect to see Bear/Jones to both get plenty of NHL games this year and Lagesson to get a cup of coffee. The rhetoric suggests Boucharg is going to be getting the slow play to make sure he's developing well. So while he may get a few games he'll be managed closely.

Jones/Bear are both trade chips so they will be showcased as well.

I see Lagesson as the best immediate solution of the bunch. He was so good for the Condors. Fully expecting to see that amazing flow on the Oilers opening night roster.
