A big percentage of his points comes from the power-play. Like he has 20 power-play points or something so maybe.

Well exactly, if you're going to have a powerplay specialist defenceman he might as well be good at it. Jultz is not. At all. He's so static on the blue line. I really liked Nurse on the PP last night because he actually moves on the blue line, changing angles and looking for lanes.

This is the one area that I am really dissappointed with McLennan in. I just don't get why he isn't trying something different than Schultz.

Basically get Schultz off of it. I would guess that fixes a few things

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this powerplay NEEDS a bomb from the point, preferably rhs. Without the bomb the pk cheats to much and all the lanes get closed off, we need someone they will respect so they stay a little higher and are worried about taking the pass lane and shot lane away. This will create so much space for the forwards, we'll see those cross ice passes and back door tap ins of yester year ala Cory potter

PP1
Lander-McDavid-Nuge/Eberle
Davidson-Klefbom

(I'd really only throw Eberle out there when we have possession on a change....otherwise play nuge with mcdavid and let it rain. Lander to take draws.)

PP2
Hall-Drai-Yak
Nurse-Sekera

similarly with the lines....for a little while i'd like to see....

Hall-Drai-Yak (Yak to forecheck)
Pouliot-Nuge-Eberle (all these guys need to get going but they are all capable 1st line players who should be able to take the heat off of Drai and McD lines)
Purcell-CSP-Lander (Just awful players to play McDavid with but it could work if he can carry a line. Purcell has shown he can compliment talent and is a RS for McDavid to work with. Lander can take draws and hopefully play enough defense to generate possession time for McDandy.)
Hendricks-Letestu-Korpikoski

Then for the D....

Klefbom-Davidson (sadly....or awesomely....Davidson is probably one of our more well-rounded defenders in terms of ability and pro experience)
Nikitin-Sekera (this might actually work.)
Nurse-Schultz (Schultz's last hurrah. If he can't help our golden boy then bench him and play Gryba for a "shut down pair")

Of course McDavid will force himself up the lineup but ideally....he carries a 3rd line and makes magic on the 1st PP....maybe until the deadline....

Pretty damming report on the what the issue with the PP is, based on last night's game, with a quote by none other than the HC. I think everyone should be able to read through the lines to see what the biggest issue is.

“I don’t think we had a real threat from anything up high on the power play, so it kept our power-play shots down"

I don't think we need 4 forwards right now but in the future I'd like to see Yakupov play one of the points on the 2nd PP unit.

Hall-Drai-Hopkins
Nurse-Sekera

Pouliot-Mcdavid-Eberle
Davidson-Yakupov

That's the PP units I'd go with. Encourage Nurse and Sekera to shoot more often.

Yakupov and Davidson both have nice slapshots when they use that 2nd unit might be better than the first considering how good Mcdavid and Eberle are at passing and shooting. I think the second unit tries to keep the action cycling on the right side so Pouliot can stand in front of the net. Davidson doesn't pinch so that we don't get caught leaving the goalie out to dry.

1/4 in powerplay against Yotes and the everything looked much much better. Zone entries, support, quality of passes and decisions. They even used the guy in the middle multiple times. Lets hope that it continues !

For me the biggest annoyance is not using the best PP defenceman on the top unit.

Schultz is essentially a 4th forward on the PP, he shouldn't be used as a QB, as it's not in his skill set. Sekera on the other hand put up 40 points and had success QB'ing the Caralina PP in 13-14.

With the injuries to this team my top unit would be

Hall-RNH-Draisaitl
Eberle-Sekera

That's actually a unit I would stick with, even when the team's healthy

Purcell-Letestu/Lander-Pouliot
Schultz-Nurse

Once everyone's back the other unit is

Pouliot/Purcell-McDavid-Yakupov
Schultz/Purcell-Klefbom
