I'm cool with this trade and I'm cool with Edmonton throwing in an additional 1st rounder if Motreal eats 1/2 of Price's cap hit.
If not, thanks but no thanks.

I really can't see Edmonton trading our first for a few years at least. We've simply been too bad to risk losing a high pick, plus we need young talent coming in on ELCs. This is enough to not make this deal on its own.

Even ignoring the first, this really does nothing to fix any of the Oilers problems, and even exacerbates them. Right now we have a bad defense, a question mark in goal, and a bad cap situation. While Price is a lot more likely to be a good goalie than Talbot, he makes our cap situation a ton worse (even though we'd be dumping Lucic), and we'd still be unable to fix our D. To add to this, 8 years at such a massive cap hit is too big of a risk. If at any point in those 8 years he declines he becomes an insane burden, untradeable, and takes away our chances of being competetive in McDavids prime. This might happen in year 8, but it also might happen in year 1 or 2.

Simply a bad proposal. I can completely understand the habs not liking it, but it carries a huge risk in several different ways for the Oilers.

I agree, If you offered Yamamoto or Bouchard + Talbot + first + cond 3 During the year when Price will show how good he still is, then yes I would really think about that trade.
I thought you were crazy from your previous posts but this takes the f***ing cake. You really expect the Oilers to offer that?

As an Oilers fan, this may sound crazy to you Hab fans....I wouldn't trade Lucic straight across for Price.

Price is signed til 2026...yes thats 2026!! that is crazy and his cap hit is 75% higher that Lucic.
The deal has you shedding significant money as is. It's crazy. Talbot + Lucic for Price at full cap hit alone is a huge upgrade, provides cap/financial relief.

What about a the Lucic contract. Do you think a GM in the NHL will take it? Think again.

So the Oilers should trade one bad contract for another that is even longer? Until Price can actually play and put up Vezina type #'s again why would any team want to pay the premium it cost to have him. It's highly debatable that he is not even a top 5 goalie anymore when taking contracts and performance into account.

Furthermore Lucic is a bad hit away from being a LTIR player and wingers are probably the easiest positions to replace and won't end your season if they do get injured. Price being injured often means you either have to have another well payed goalie behind him or risk losing another season.

The original deal is horribad for the Oilers.

Lucic has a bad contract but Price is worse.

you think Habs would accept that pile of junk?
just ask yourself this.
Price played with a terrible d in front of him last year
if there were to be a world cup or an olympics this year. WHo do you think Babcock chooses as his starting goalie

So Talbot had better stats last season (in a down year) with Oilers Klefbom, Larsson, Sekera all injured for 20+ games each. So is Talbot a better goalie or do the Oilers have a vastly better D with all the youngsters? Both situations are very sad for the Habs.

Lucic is still good to protect McDavid. I would love to have a guy like that sure 6 million is alot to protect Pettersson /Boesser.

Probably Brayden Holtby but I don't know what that has to do with this thread. If he chose either Talbot or Price today to be the starter, without proving they have rebounded, then he is making a bad choice.

No, Because he knows how good they are when they are healthy, which they are.
Price would start with Holtby as Second.

This isn't three years ago. Price needs to earn that job back. Holtby is good enough to win Stanley Cups and Vezina's. Price and Talbot are coming off of awful seasons. Today, Holtby is a better goalie. Price would need to earn that job back, and he could, but he needs to actually do it.
