Here is award-winning investigative journalist, Russ Conway on his assessment of the Cal Nicholls remarks and their timing:

With the business-like, gentlemanly approach of the 76-year-old Hotchkiss keeping sides respectful of each other, cheap shots aren't allowed.

Of course, that kidney punch thrown by Cal Nichols, one of the 30-some owners of the Edmonton Oilers, didn't help away from the table. In a published report yesterday, as the two sides were getting ready to meet, Nichols claimed that the league would either get "cost certainty" in the next contract, or Edmonton would ask for suspension of operations for the team.

Great timing. What a bozo.

Get that guy out of the way.

A more accurate introduction.

If you are going to do that do not put it as my quote.

Let's use his introduction from the Hockey Hall of Fame website:

In addition, Russ Conway, Sports Editor of The Eagle-Tribune in Lawrence, MA, and a nominee for a Pulitzer prize for outstanding investigative journalism is the recipient of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for his achievements in print media, as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers' Assocation.
