Once upon a time, we got our Kris crossed. Then nabbed a JJ each. We both also have JP as prospects...

What would Smith in Edmonton and Talbot in Calgary be considered?

I think its a great idea.. A cheap option and can actually play... Plus he will get quite a few assists passing it up to McDavid... Like and extra dman back there the way he plays it

After the season Smith had, you’d have to think he’d be cheap.

Yes he was the only reason the Flames didn’t get swept, but he’s not very good anymore.

His wife is best friends with Tipp's wife. The husbands have their own bromance going on. We traded Dubnyk for peanuts even though he was significantly outplaying Smith because they wanted to please Smith. Next is his personal coach, John Elkin, becomes Edmonton's goalie coach.

Hopefully for the Oil's sake, Holland saves Tipp from himself on this one.

Well hot damn, if he chases Schwartz out of Edmonton there might be an upside to this after all. That dude has made every single goalie he’s ever worked with worse.

I honestly feel that Smith would be an upgrade over Talbot at his point. To me, the book is out on Talbot. He can't track pucks worth shit and really struggles in front of traffic. This starting becoming apparent going back to the 2017 playoff run.

At least with Smith, there is some hope as he has some familiarity playing for Tippett and showed promise during the Flames mediocre playoff run.

So much this. It's worth a year of Smith for a new goalie coach.

If Edmonton signs Smith for only a year it could be a shrewd move as he did pretty well in Calgary (and Arizona way back when) his first year there.

If Mike Smith gets a contract longer than one year the Oilers' fans will hate his guts by the second month of his second year.

Giving him more than two years would be completely asinine and I hope, for fans of the Oilers, that their management isn't as dumb as that.

Edmonton should probably stop grabbing our garbage.

Gulutzan, Chiasson, and now Smith... Though, in Chiasson's defense he did a lot better in Edmonton because he got a better opportunity to shine offensively.

On a positive note, I think Edmonton fans would be really thrilled that Smith could really help out the defense by his puck moving abilities. He's one of the best in the league at it and would really help push the offense on the opposing team. He really frustrates the other team in the sense that he stops them from trying to gain possession with the dump and chase.

Mrazek>Smith. Age alone should be a deciding factor. Mike Smith is last week, and Mrazek was the backbone of Carolina and it's return to the playoffs. Smith lost his starting role to a backup goaltender, but got the nod for the playoffs and almost got swept in the 1st round. Mrazek went to the conference finals

I'm still not convinced that Holland will do any better in Edmonton than he did his last few years in Detroit, where he was pretty bad all things considered. Similarly, I'm also not sure he'll be that much of an improvement on Chiarelli to be completely frank. Could be wrong though, as I often am, but I tell it like I see it.

If you think Smith was the problem in the playoffs you were watching the wrong series. He almost got Calgary a 3-1 lead if Calgary potted their chances. They didn't. Smith shutout Colorado the first game too. Maybe if Calgary remembered to play defense Smith wouldn't have to be getting shelled 50+ per game. Not a recipe for success. People can hate on Smith all they want, he would be a serviceable goalie behind Koskinen and easily take Koskinen's spot as the 1A if Koskinen ****'s the bed.
