The lol oilers part of me says they should blow another first round pick and backfire spectacularly...

The more pragmatic fan of the entire game part of me says that the oilers should pull through this final year and make moves when they finally start getting some significant cap space this coming offseason.

IMO the Oilers really fumbled their cap space this summer.

it was clear they needed/wanted a goalie.

Markstrom and others rejected them. Fair.

but then used that 3 mil cap space on Barrie who is at this point nothing but a PP specialist. Horrendous 5 on 5. Oilers already had a historic Pp and ranked 1st last year. Redundant.

they should have weaponized that cap space and used it and traded for a goalie like Raanta.

Internally Bouchard could fill Barrie’s roles. It wouldn’t even be that much of a downgrade.

I enjoy the oilers screwing up....let them waste their future on another injury prone goalie

Bouchard probably would have been an upgrade. Barrie is horrid.

Not a bad deal in a vacuum...but Oilers really can't afford to make their defence thinner.

How about Georgiev? 2nd plus?

I know we should be in a win now mode but really, you want to blow yet another 2nd rounder? didn't have one last draft, don't have one this coming draft, so we'll just keep giving them away year after year? o_O

A minus player on a top team in the Swedish 2nd tier?

+/- is a useless stat so I put no stock in that. Reports said he looked good on ice and he has a skill set out D core lacks. like I said I’d like to see him at the NHL level. That’s what matters in the end.

Look at Yamamoto impact and stat line as a NHL player verses his time in the A. You can’t always hang your hat on one thing. Each situation is different.

Raanta is good but also has shown himself to be made of glass . Probably won't be that expensive to aquire because of that.
