Yes, there are always a few teams that start out fast and go on a 10 game skid later on and vice versa. November we will have a solid idea on where everyone stands. This time last year I think Ottawa was on hot streak and yeah.

It's certainly been a sweetheart of a schedule to start....hell, the entire month of October is soft as butter.

But hey, they had the same advantage last year and did nothing with it.

Still have to win the games, even if they are being out played.

I mean we have to wait until the 24th of October to see them play a decent team.

This schedule could set them up nicely for the year, or prove to be false hope for the team and fans.

We shall see......

PS: No, the underlying metrics don't bode well for long term success.

Should be better just because Lucic is dragging down the Flames instead. lol

Pretty much every high performer in small sample size is due to "regress" mainly on how ridiculous a small sample can be.

Wow what a shock is to see some one who posted literally 20 times in the Neal 40 goal thread (all saying he sucks etc) would start this thread.

Can not be because of their sore rear no not at all.

Should just have been left in the Neal thread, so much salt.

Flames fans have so much salt they got the traditional thread every player get when they score at least a hat trick locked

I tell you that is dedication to being butt hurt

Well yeah, obviously. But oil fans put up with so much garbage by incompetent gms. Holland is doing it right. The expectations is just try and make the playoffs. That’s it. Next year is when the money pours in to make signings. For now, the start is nice.

We'll gladly take Ws any way we can get them. I'll put a positive spin on it and say once we get the hang of Tippet's system we'll be even better.

We also have two pretty raw rookies in Bear and Persson playing in the top 4 right now. They're both still learning how to play in the league. We also had big turnover at forward, including 2 rookies in Haas and Nygard getting third line minutes.

You can say we're "pretenders" at 4-0, have had a favourable schedule, etc, but these wins will be big down the road when/if our current numbers catch up with us.

Dave Toppit is clearly having a big effect on the club, it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Is the 4-0 start a mirage?

Main Board loves its Oilers threads... Yes overachieving, playoffs still unlikely, Stanley Cup not happening. Move on and start a thread about your own team.

Bank the 8 points and keep learning the new coach's system. The difference so far has been special teams. The PP has a new weapon with Neal down low for which teams haven't accounted and the PK hasn't allowed many goals at this very early stage.

Underrated difference this season is that refs are actually calling more obstruction and interference against defenders covering McDavid. It's the opposite of watching Kesler hold him against the boards for 10 seconds away from the puck while the ref does nothing.

They’ve played bad teams, and teams that were in a back to back game with a backup goalie.

That being said, 4-0 is 4-0 and if you’re competing for a playoff spot you have to beat the bad teams. Playing McDavid and Draisaitl 25 mins a game will also wear them down over and 82 game season.

James Neal is also shooting 47%. Not sustainable. Oilers are going to regress and return to the Oilers of old IMO.
