Marody was sent back to Bakersfield prior to today's game.

In the postgame Rob Brown was talking about subbing in either Yamamoto or Rattie for Puljujarvi for next game.
Id say Rattie...until Caggiula comes back to earth, then they can swap.

Had to have that game...next 2 are killers, sets up the road trip nicely.

3-0 for the backup!

So clearly, and Aberg finally realizing his career was on the line doesn't make his failure here any less obvious

It took Nashville and Edmonton giving up on him and Anaheim sending him to the minors for Aberg to realize he had to be better.

The Oilers are matching the pace of the 16-17 team. And that team had a horrid November, so if this one is better, look out.

Random thoughts.

Koskinen played like Talbot but got the win. Oilers were the better team, played that way, and got the W.

Draisaitl, Rieder, and Chaison looked great. Rieder had 3 incredible grade A chances due to Draisaitl being awesome. He needs to bury at least one of those.

McDavid, Nuge, and Caguillia were great together.

Strome, Lucic, and Jessie did not play bad. Jessie Puljujärvi the best on that line with a couple quality chances. Completely outshone by...

Brodziach, Kassian, and Kharia awesome. I felt this line could end up being the best fourth line in the nhl at the start of the year and tonight they finally looked like I thought they could.

Defense was solid and got the full check mark as a group. Nurse quietly replacing Sekera very well. Klefbom not so quietly playing great. Our top 4 and top 6 looking legit. Sekera out and loads of talent in the system... I don't think we will ever have a "great" defense but really should have a "good" defense for the foreseeable future.

Detroit is a AHL team currently. So the win isn't something to rest your hat on. However. On a hockey night in Canada this is a game the Oilers often lose. Glad they could control the game from start your finish and win. Very good sign.

Great to see the Oilers in a playoff position. Hope they can continue. Really want to see another post season run.

Strome has lost all of his instincts. Rough go for him so far.

Draisaitl and rieder were terrible for passive flybys in the defensive zone tonight. Hate that kind of stuff.

Pulju in tough on that 3rd line. None of them are puck carriers and they dont have good enough foot speed to forecheck on the run and dumps.

4th line > detroit

PP is still brutal. Get chiasson on left wall. He seems to have a decent one-timer.

Is there a blackout among the national media for commentating on the Oilers?
The leafs with the shut out don't expect any more then 5 seconds of oiler respect. and guarantee you 5 min of leaf love!! same old shit show. our last game shut out there was still more time spent on leafs then the oilers and the leafs didn't even play that day! just the way it is in canadian hockey. Leafs are like the carbon tax we all hate it and are forced to pay it. Or watch it.

Tell me about it. I'm in Toronto for uni and am surrounded by carbon tax-loving Leafs fans.

2 fluke goals make the score misleading. Nice to be on the winning end of a game like that.

Almost all lines rolling and pushing play in our favour. The 3rd line has a lot of broken plays in the offensive end, but they weren't giving up much either, which is nice to see at least.

Every Oiler had a shot tonight. Not sure when that happened last.

Why can’t the coaches see the obvious. Delayed penalty, Chaison comes on as extra. Right hand shot from the off wing; one timed and scores. Hell of a power play. Wow is this coaching thing easy!

I think that is an important point. For as much as we all want to see the third line going, they arent giving up a lot and generally speaking they are not really getting outplayed.
