Are the Icedogs in this lottery lost track what year they lost their first round pick.

It's this draft. No pick for Niagara.

How "not funny" would it be if they were to win the lottery? Not only would it suck not to pick first, they'd also pick last in the 2nd round....if they have their pick that is.

why are they making it a snake draft? dont see the need for that?

To mitigate the benefits of winning the first overall pick? evening the results i guess?

Because its based on nothing but chance. So if you get super unlucky and are picking 20th overall, it's only fair that you're also picking 21st overall.

Although since it's the OHL, usually 2nd rounders don't belong to the original team but the logic is solid imo

Niagara has London's 2nd and Kitchener's 2nd, but not their own. Only 5 teams actually still hold their own 2nd round pick.

It seems unnecessary given that hardly any team actually has their own 2nd round pick.

The only reason to do the lottery is the season was completely cancelled. I cannot see a situation arising that cancels the season short of the vaccines effectiveness data being a complete lie.

We'll probably see disruption to begin the season but I think once we get through Christmas, fans will be in seats.

The Colts own that pick.

London
Isn’t this similar to how Crosby ended up in Pittsburgh? Pretty sure this is what Brian Burke always bristled at when he was told he should follow the Pittsburgh model of building a winning team? Cheers all stay safe.

I think if you win a top 3 pick, it matters. Outside of that, I don't think it really matters all that much. I bet if you polled all 20 GM's, there would be like 20-25 different names in their top 3's

Why don't they just hold a regular style draft using the standings, positions for the draft order, when the season was cancelled. The rich get richer and the poor poorer.

What Generalsupdates said. To add to it, a team like Kingston would now have 1st overall in 2019 (Wright), 5th in 2020 (Ludwinski) and 5th again in 2021. We don’t need to reward being bad more than we already do. Or on the other end where teams like Peterborough and Flint are finally getting back to being attractive landing spots that players will report to, will have to pick lower again.

With Niagara not part of the draft lottery how are they determine where they pick in the rest of the draft?

On the OHL website, the story says: "The Niagara IceDogs were included in the lottery process in order to determine the order of selection for subsequent rounds and through the random generation of numbers were designated with the 15th position in the first round."
