Still a must listen podcast but they need to scrap Whit's golf segment that seems to be 15 minutes at the end of each episode now. Golf discussion should be limited to discussion of Caddyshack.

They give a disclaimer. So I just turn it off at that point. HOWEVER - a couple of weekends back I was refinishing some cabinets and got to the golf talk part of the podcast. My hands were too messy to touch my phone, so I suffered through the golf and I was surprised and pissed off to learn that AFTER the golf talk they told funny stories and talked about hockey again. WTF?!? That’s not how disclaimers work! Haha. So no idea how much “after golf” stuff I’ve missed since they started warning listeners who don’t care about golf to turn it off. LOL.

Hey, boss. Did you watch VHS porn with Peter North?
I love Bissonnette. I was maybe the one guy on earth hoping for and then celebrating his trade to AZ. I loved him as a player and always though he was good enough in his own zone to deserve a lot more ice than he got. I love all of the media he puts together. The Does BC series was awesome and all the Yotes web content is top notch. He’s also by far and away the best part of the best hockey podcast out there.

Having said all of that, it would be so f***ing funny if he got himself fired in this interview. Hahaha. I have to kinda cheer for it, even though it would suck. Haha.

Few notes from the interview:

  • Found it interesting that he is treating analytics as a tool to ask a different type of question. Also said that if you focused 100% on analytics you will end up with a "vanilla" team. Can't help but think that is exactly what happened with the Chayka Coyotes.
  • David Perron was his favorite player he drafted. He got questioned multiple times from the Blues whether he was the right pick and he stuck to his guns. Armstrong seems to absolutely love his style of play.

Overall really cool insight into the mindset of the management team during the draft and thought process that goes into building a team. Worth a listen for sure.

Get the chronology updated. The appearance on Chiclets was no big deal. Good episode overall but too much golf discussion in the final 20 minutes. Longer than usual. Whit's golf tales stink.

Anyone else get a takeaway based on Puddy interview that it was OeL that asked for a trade. Not vice versa. The quote was something to the effect of he was named GM and OEL’s agent called saying they needed to talk. Thats a slight change to the narrative we were fed by the Canadian media.

Yep. I have no doubt the request was from OEL after hearing that interview. I don't know how you could think otherwise.

BA stated before that the Coyotes did not start the rumors about OEL and was hinting OEL's agent probably started the rumors. If I was OEL I would want out also. Some of the vets are riding off into the sunset and really don't give a shit what RT wants, or how RT wants them to play. Just putting in time.

I have nothing to base it on, but I would not be surprised if it was simply the agent doing his job in looking out for the interests of his player. In this case, he probably was aware of rumblings about the Coyotes looking to trade away older assets and rebuild, so he got OEL's blessing to look just in case things were going to get quite bleak for another number of years. Then when Armstrong came in, OEL's agent had already seeded the idea around the league to gauge interest and Armstrong was forced to field offers to the degree he did.

Based on just picking two potential destinations, you can see that OEL wasn't adamant on being moved at any point. In summary it's just a case of every one covering all their potential bases so no one gets hit by something without being totally prepared for it. It's a business and I doubt there will be any hard feelings that derive from this.

I listened to the interview and did not get the impression OEL asked for the trade. And Morgan reported ownership was unhappy with his contract. I theorize ownership tasked Sullivan with learning value and it leaked. If OEL really requested a trade he would have opened it up to more than 2 teams.

Ownership and Sullivan were already splashing his name around and making it obvious they were open to trading him. I think Armstrong cooled their jets on the need to shed salary at all costs. Their math was probably pretty fuzzy with what they wanted to do, and what they thought the trade market would be. The fact that the player is still here indicates there was no true 'demand' from any camp. It was more of an exploratory exercise to see if everyone involved could get a fresh start.

I thought it started from an e-mail that OEL's agent sent to the Coyotes that Oliver was willing to waive his NMC. The interim GM than had to send out feelers for a trade before the new GM was picked. Once BA became GM, then it was decided that Oliver would only waive to 2 teams. The agent tried to leverage and BA had none of that, contacted OEL directly, and kept Oliver on the Coyotes.
I'm surprised that OEL hasn't fired his agent. I know I shouldn't be, and it's why (imo) he shouldn't be captain, too nice of a guy.
