Nikolai Kulemin

Hey guys, Leaf fan here. I was just wondering if I could get a scouting report/ comments about our latest Russian draftee, Kulemin.

Also, is he currently under contract with Metallurg, or did his contract expire this summer? And if it is expired, what are the chances of him coming over to NA?

Thanks!

He's under contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
From my point of view, give another year or two to round angles in RSL and he will be good to go to NHL. Definitely, he got NHL potential in him!

Thanks a lot. I actually thought he wasn't under contract. Too bad, would have liked to see him this year.

Denis Parshin.

He is always an intriguing prospect each year we make a table and he is a dark horse. Has his game gotten better or how close is he to the NHL?

Can anyone shed any light on the styles and upsides of these off-the radar rearguards?

rumors flying around the panthers board that he is close to signing with the cats. He doesn't have an outstanding contract Sibir Novosibirsk?

Can anyone shed some light on Alexander Nikulin? If he had a year or two in the AHL do you think he would be NHL ready? Any idea of when his contract expires (since i doubt that his team would just let him walk away like Kaigorodov)?

Maybe they aren't prospects, but I recently drafted A TON of Russians in my dynasty league draft. It was nearing the end of the draft so I figured why not take a good Russian player who may come over rather than a North American scrub destined for the m inors :D

What is the likelihood that the following players will ever play in the NHL?

-Maxim Sushinksy
-Dmitry Bykov
-Vitaly Atyushov
-Anton But
-Alexander Korloyuk
-Sergei Zinovjev

If anyone can tell me whether any of those guys are likely to come over in the next few seasons or if they are just picks destined for the scrap heap, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sushinsky - He missed his chance. This season would have been the logical time for him to cross the pond if ever. He was a free agent and almost ended up in North America, at one point being almost certain that he would play in the NHL. There remains a possibility that he will try his luck in the NHL next year, but at 33 not being the fastest of players as it was, he has maybe one year of NHL caliber hockey left in him.

Bykov - Given his past tenure in North America, he would be willing to give it another go almost certainly. Yet like the reason Detroit didn't resign him after his solid season with them - he wants a respectable amount of money. If an NHL team is willing to pay him, he will play in the NHL.

Atyushov - He is very comfortable where he is now, yet has shown a tendancy to switch clubs for more money in the past. As with Bykov, I assume if an NHL team is willing to shell out the maximum he is entitled to (is the rookie max universal or does it not apply after a certain age?), he will be in North America. I have a feeling he may sign after this upcoming season.

But - There were unsubstantiated rumours that he would sign with Tampa this offseason, but they were a load of crap. He has shown willingness to participate in training camp before, indicating that he is interested in playing in North America. Unfortunetly, But would be a marginal 2nd line player or so - so crossing the pond might not be in his best interest unless he shows some improvement. Considering his decent size, he could play a bottom two line role, but would probably not be happy with such.

Korolyuk - Will almost certainly play another season or two in the NHL. The problem is that he has to honour a contract with San Jose if he wants to play in the NHL, a contract that Korolyuk does not like. He will most likely suck it up and play for San Jose the 2007-2008 season.

Zinovjev - Has been to North American camp numerous times, has shown a tendancy to abandom teams at will for very slight increases in pay. Would have hopped on a plane to Boston long ago, if not for the Bruins being stingy after he fled back to Russia when he got sent down to the AHL during his first tenure. Since the Bruins lose his rights very shortly - he will probably be signed.

Andrei Mikhnov

anyone know if he's on the map towards the NHL, or if he is just a distant project. He was drafted by St. Louis, is he still their property.

Still property of the Blues, but he isn't making the team anytime soon, and as far as I can see - ever.

Slitty, is Igor Mirnovs knee problems going to prevent him from North America? Or do you think he could jump the pond next year on Kaigorodovs wing and have good chemistry? Also who is or who will be better, Mirnov or Nikulin?

At the present moment Nikulin is probably just a little bit better, but don't let the inexplicable (well not as inexplicable now that Bykov is in charge) call-ups to the Russian national team fool you - he has no business being in the NHL yet. As for Mirnov, he could certainly have a massive breakout season with a good chunk of Dynamo's established offensive firepower being lost to financial woes (think Sushinsky, Grabovsky). Mirnov probably has more attainable upside in him, but neither kid is quite NHL-ready. The Sens could certainly try to convince both to come over for AHL duty as that could reap rewards in the future, but I am pessimistic about your chances of success.

If you think about it, not having a transfer agreement and retaining Russian prospect rights indefinitely is a blessing in disguise for some NHL teams. Finally, sorry, I have no idea to what extent Mirnov's knee problems will affect his career - NHL or otherwise. Your best bet is a medical specialist or perhaps a psychic.

Slitty,

when you say leave/abandon teams. how does that work? i've always wonder why some players start with a team and than finish with another? do they have to released? are they traded?

Some players simply go and sign a contract with another RSL team while having a existing active RSL contract. Such occurs as a result of problems with team management/coaching stuff and/or a better contract offer. This is "legal", but entitles the team losing the aforementioned player to monetary compensation.

Mikhail Zhukov.

Bleh, just catching up to the older missed requests. What exactly about good old Misha? Personally, I don't see him amounting to anything more than an uninteresting RSL scrub to be honest. Conversly, he would probably jump on any North American contract thrown at him like a scrap of food tossed to someone who has been fasting for a few days .
