Holly, i really believe you need more categories in your chart.
UQTR games for the most part were in a Euro tourney, Leth has played i believe all 4 of its games versus College or ACAC teams, Alberta has one or two College games in there, they have Oil rookies. I am sure UNB has their yearly swing down the coast to take on an AHL team.This coming weekend I see Leth plays in the OUA so separating them out might give you a better answer to your question on surprises. I would hope that Leth would be 4 rip against the lower ACAC schools, they seem to avoid NAIT every year? And as much as we like the Herd, the Jimmies were just trying on their new stuff and getting the boom box set up in their school bus when they played them. 3-1 versus CW teams is still legit thou

A fair bit of movement this week as results become more meaningful. The teams who went up were Laurentian and Brock, while Mount Royal, Manitoba, Moncton, St. Mary's, Guelph, and Toronto went down. Teams “on the verge†of a boost are UNB, Concordia, and UPEI. I want those teams to have a good week before a boost. Sometimes a premature boost just winds up requiring a relegation immediately thereafter.​

I think the OUA West will be a battle between York and Ryerson

Those have been the top 2 teams from my viewings thus far. Ryerson's record could be better as well as they have been playing with half their regulars out. Ryerson is about to embark on a November seeing them play Toronto, Nipissing, Laurentian, Western and Waterloo in their next 5. They should win most of those games.

As of today, Brock is at the top of the standings - but I am not sure how sustainable that is. Of their 9 games (6 wins), they have yet to out shoot their opponents once and are averaging 41 shots against per game. Their goaltender Clint Windsor has a 0.951 save percentage thus far. I am interested to see how they hold up against McGill, Concordia and UQTR who they play next.

So UNB goes up to A and Guelph goes up to C+. Laurentian was the only team to fall (to C). Carleton, UQTR, and Acadia are possibly a week away from a move. They are now in the B- half-way house from which promotion back to B or a drop to C+ are both possible. At the same time, Concordia, UPEI, and Manitoba could be teams to watch for an upward move. I don't see a lot of teams within a week of being A calibre.

Alberta and Saskatchewan are not doing as well as UNB but the consistent wins keep coming. So they go to A as expected. St. FX are getting close. Queen's and Concordia both get a boost from C to C+ at long last. Perhaps it was overdue. Going the other way was Carleton. Just couldn't keep them up any longer. We all knew that St. Mary's would never spend the whole season in C, and they are now C+. Moving the other way is Western Ontario.

The teams on the verge are Acadia (just lost their minus but it could come back), UQTR (still in B-), and UOIT (who just picked up a minus). Lakehead remains in C+ but they are ready for a slide.

UNB loses their + but remain #1 and in A.

St. FX lost to Dalhousie so their bid for A status remains on hold.

After being promoted Queen's and Concordia celebrated with splits, which do not enhance their ratings but aren't going anywhere right now. The teams on the bubble in B did OK, with only UOIT losing.

After being demoted from B, Carleton managed a split against B teams. Let's see if they can maintain to get back there.

Lakehead was teetering on the brink of C+ but managed a sweep to hold their spot.

The big alerts are now the bottom 5 in the C+ category. A case could be made that they should be in C.

You will see that St. F.X., once getting close to A, have been slipping. They are still a solid B team. Other than Brock, the bottom C+ “bubble†teams did enough to stay put. Lakehead never played and remain on the bubble. The B- has vanished, and C- is added. Moncton has won 3 of 4, and 4 of 6, to vault up from C to C+. The AUS now has no C teams.

One peculiarity is that the CW has 4 of the top 5, and then nothing until 14, 19, 23, and 32. The AUS teams are 1, 6, 9, 16, 20, 21, and 22.

The inter-conference ranking is never easy. The holiday break is often a good time to look at some of the rankings in-depth. Here is a table for the conference records against one another, and outside conferences:

At one level, the CW dominated the OUA. Lakehead has a winning record in the OUA West but were dominated in 4 home games against Lethbridge and Manitoba, the CW's 5th and 6th place teams. Ryerson, the run-away leader in the OUA West, split against UBC, the CW's 7th place team.

However, the OUA did better than usual against both the AUS and the NCAA.

There is also a significant gap between the OUA's East and West divisions. The East has 33 wins, to 23 for the West. So one must ask: Just how good is Ryerson? They are an impressive 11-0-0 against C/D teams but only 2-2-1 against B and C+ teams.

The AUS teams seem to fall right after rising, or rise right after falling. After UNB they have 2 teams in B and 4 in C+. SMU started very slow and have risen steadily. Could they get to their usual position of B (or better)?

One question to be answered in the new year: Should Alberta move down? Or should MRU or Calgary move up?

This was the week of the demotion. Alberta finally stumbles out of the ever-shrinking A level. It might be that UBC just knows how to play them this year, but they are in a tight race with Calgary and MRU and cannot be placed in a higher level than those teams.

The OUA West has taken a pounding and Ryerson and Lakehead have both dropped a level. UOIT from the OUA East has also dropped back. Ryerson is 2-4-1 and UOIT 2-6-1 outside the C/D level. Lakehead's series against Brock was their last chance to salvage a C+ place.

UQTR and St. Mary's could switch, as could Dalhousie and Ottawa. Those are the most likely changes in upcoming rankings. The slip of Western Ontario into C- is unexpected. They are not as big of a disappointment as Toronto, but not too far behind.

The slip of Western Ontario into C- is unexpected. [/QUOTE] No kidding. I saw them play for the first time this season on Friday against Ryerson. They were completely overmatched. They were up 3-1 after the first (thanks to 2 goals in the last minute), but you just had this feeling Ryerson would come back, which they did. I've followed the Mustangs for many years and this may be their worst team ever. The last time they finished below .500 (which is almost a certainty this year) was 1971.

Candidates for a shift would be Concordia, Western Ontario, and R.M.C. for a downfall and Ottawa, Guelph, and Toronto for a boost. The demarcation between B- and C+ is not obvious and I have those teams lumped together for ratings purposes anyhow. This lumping decreases the likelihood of a boost to B for any of them.

This would be a good time for a “who's hot and who's not†segment. The hots are:

Toronto is playing like a run-of-the-mill mediocre OUA West team. Which is a great improvement. So they have ditched the inglorious label of the only D team. They are now in C-.

Tough week for the B level. Acadia, MRU, Calgary, McGill, Queen's, and Concordia all slipped, at least a bit. St. FX treaded water. Only Alberta improved their lot.

In the OUA interlock, the West had another good week over the East, going 9-3. On the season the East's lead is now 49-42.

There are two spots in the rankings where a tight group is bunched which overlaps two levels of rankings. Between B and B-, Concordia is hanging in the B level by a thread. I am giving them one more shot. SMU and Manitoba from B- could overcome them.

Similarly, UOIT is just hanging on to C+, and could be overcome by Ottawa and Guelph from the C level.
