Putting is absolutely killing me last couple of rounds. I've missed at least 8 makable birdie putts over my last 36 holes. On Friday I was hitting fairways and greens very well so it wasn't a big deal, but today I had to scramble and ended up with an 88 because I couldn't buy a putt. I know I'm in my own head about it and putting too much pressure on myself. Got to find some way out of it.
horrifically inconsistent round yesterday, tale of two 9`s, front nine, felt so uncomfortable and started with 8 straight bogey`s before par on 9. Back 9, it was like I took a lesson before starting the back. Took some deep breaths, slowed everything down and posted +2 38 for an 82 The game giveth and taketh away
Me and you swapped 9s. I started with a pretty solid front +4 40 (2 double bogeys, 1 bogey, 5 pars and a birdie), then on the back after the first 3 holes which I played at even par, I went the next 6 holes with only one par on 18 and a final +6 41. Obviously the scores were close on both 9s, but I could not hit a shot straight to save my life on the back and was putting extremely inconsistently. Easily could have been under 80 if I didn't have two 3 putts and a lost ball on the back. As you said, the game giveth and taketh away
If it makes you feel better I used to shoot in the 80s at that age and pretty much stagnated for the next 15 years He sounds like he's really going to be a good golfer in the future.
I hear ya, for me at Olympic View, I simply have to get through the first 5 holes and should get through those first 5 holes no more than +2 as number 6.7 and 8 are difficult, especially 6 being a 200+yd par 3 with water guarding all but a small sliver of the green on the left side and more often than not wind in your face. With no wind (rare) I hit a 5 iron, sometimes the wind has been that strong that a 3 wood is a must, it`s super tough I simply didn`t have it, I kinda rushed to the first tee which isn`t good for me, I don`t often hit balls before a round but I still like arriving early, stretching, taking some putts but I was coming from an appointment and literally parked, paid and the boys were already on deck but still, a poor day of ball striking and if not for 4+ putts from the 10-15 foot range I drained, it could have been worse on the front. Still great to be able to get out and play but man can it be frustrating
45-41 last weekend. That's good for me! Heading out of town for a fun best ball tournament this weekend, so hopefully I can shoot pretty well.
changed my putting approach a bit this year and it`s worked nicely. My past stance I didn`t do this but now I have my eyes directly over the ball and have gone to a more upright stance whereas before I had more of a hunch in my stance and set up. It`s worked nicely. On the putting greens prior to a game I do a drill I learned from an old fella I played with years ago to help my feel, I take about 10-12 practice putts with my head turned towards the hole, never looking down at the ball after I have put the putter where it needs to be, frighteningly accurate
43-42 yesterday walking 18. Really happy with how I played for 14 holes. Then fatigue set in, I hit the wall, my legs just wouldn't work and the hips stopped turning. Was even par from 10-14, and played the last 4 holes +6 with 2 drives OB. Came 2 inches away from Eagle on #11. Almost holed a lob wedge from 70yds on a Par 5.
been there, done that, I walk often but the course I play the most is one where I simply falter on the back nine as it`s not the easiest of walks so I take a cart there which I`m not a huge fan of. I always bring some form of food too, if my stomach starts grumbling, same thing happens, I fall off the tracks quickly
Heading out today, last time shot 39-42 with a triple on 16 and 2 times in the water, but had a chip in on 13. What shall today's adventures bring, it is already 21c and hot at 9:15 in the a.m., I think I should dress in all white, the opposite of Gary Player.
Uggggg 86, nothing was working in the bush all day long and punching out, couldn't put and it was hotter then you know what. Oh well, next week calls.
Well golfed my personal best today, a 37-38 for a +4 75. Just purchased a Taylormade Spider tour putter (value condition on globalgolf) and I have been loving it two rounds in. Couldn't miss with it today from 10 feet and less. It's nice to break 80 again after 9 or 10 straight in the 80s.
that`s great golf, I will not be posting a 75 this year unless I also buy a Spider putter Putting isn`t my issue, keeping my swing nice and slow is
Amazing what confidence can emerge w a club. been sidelined this year w myriad small injuries after a couple early rounds, the crime-de-la-crime putting a nail through my foot. Next week I’m back out there.
Haven’t played in two weeks since my 78 on July 5th. Going tomorrow afternoon with my 11y son after his baseball game with a friend. Hopefully he’ll be a little tired with the game and the expected 85 sunny and humid forecast and I’m safe from being beaten. He shot games of 89-91-92 in the last week. He will beat me before the age I started playing (14y). Unless I get really good again...
So awesome that hes getting into it young- I started young as well and am glad I did. I'm not going to lie, I'm kinda rooting for him to get you.
Tempo is so huge, I find my worst rounds I'm always trying to hit it a little too hard and start swinging too quickly. Game becomes a lot simpler when you focus on being smooth with your swings.
Well my good play continued this weekend. Reached my 2nd goal of the year (golf even or better for 9 holes) in tremendous fashion with a 33 (-3), and ended up the day at an even par 71 setting another personal best. Playing a much harder course today though, hopefully I can break 80 at this course.
it sure it, what is even more frustrating is I have plenty of personal examples of rounds where I`ve played with great tempo and posted a solid score then rounds where I played like it was my first ever time holding a club I`m a big believer is maintaining a tempo on the greens too by staying with the same pre putt routine. For me, I take three short practice putts, get behind the ball and go. If I miss putts badly it`s almost always because my takeaway is too quick and I pull the putter back outside of the invisible line I need to bring it back along. Playing tomorrow, we shall see how well I practice what I preach
Playing Blissful Meadows tomorrow morning; haven’t played that course since last year but it is one of, if not, my favorite local courses. The company I used to work for held an annual tournament for the Jimmy Fund there and Blissful was such a great host site. I also saw the sister of my best friend get married there; there’s not a negative thing I can say about the course and the people that work there.
