My all-time favourite Blue.

. At around 5.10 he talks about coaching. I have heard he has had some health issues lately, so he may not be well enough to coach, even if he was interested. (Which I doubt). I like his idea of coaching as mentoring. Kings fans say his brother Darryl was good at this too. It isn't necessarily about defensive or offensive systems. It is more about adjusting the system to your players, not vice versa.
I know it is poor forum etiquette to quote oneself, but I posted this in another thread, and I think it is relevant to this discussion. Brian Sutter talks about finding the good in players, and developing that. He basically talks about mentoring, which I think is exactly what the team needs right now. He may have started as a defensive first coach, who preached "up and down, bump and grind", but he managed in that time to nurture a young Brett Hull, and helped to transform him into a 70+ goal scorer. Hull didn't score all those goals
despite Sutter, and the way Sutter speaks glowingly of Hull in the interview supports this. Brian's brother Darryl, according to Kings fans that I have conversed with, employed a similar style. It is not about a defensive or offensive scheme, but rather assessing the strengths in individual players and finding a way to amplify that. I also think that such an emphasis necessitates that the coach creates a system that fits the players,
not vice versa! This last part is crucial, as it demands a coach that can adapt. I honestly think that a coach like Brian or Darryl Sutter are mischaracterized as "defensive" coaches, or "Hitch clones" Nor do I think that they reverted to screaming, or "butt kicking" as their primary means of motivation. In any case, I think it is a pipe dream, as both are firmly entrenched in their retirement. I just wanted to challenge these misconceptions about the Sutters.
