So I just wasted some time on Google trying to get info on Kessel's trade list. Read the funniest article a year or so ago with someone speculating where he would and wouldn't accept a trade to. Minny was on the accept list and AZ was on the no list!!!!

For those who don’t know what happened to cause Grabner’s play to decline - he took a stick to the eye and has permanent damage.

Not to get too far ahead of myself, but I was looking at the upcoming UFA list and there are some interesting names. If we can't re-sign Hall I hope we make a big splash in UFA to keep excitement going around the team. If we could move some deadweight in one or all of Grabner/Stepan, and Goligoski/Demers to free up some cap we could still put together an exciting team. What's great is some of the top names are on very strapped teams. A lot of the names seem like good bounce back candidates too (Barrie, Brodie).

Granlund - Would be interesting to see if he could be a center that blossoms into a 1B/2A tweener on our team. Would also help to shelter Hayton and let Dvo be on the 2nd line I could see him looking pretty sharp in RT's system however.
Brodie/Barrie - Feels like we are missing a solid PP QB. OEL lost his touch and Chychrun is still improving here
Hoffman - Scoring
Krieder/Tofoli - That grit we have been needing bad
Eakin - Could be a great Richie/Soda replacement

GDT would be epic here if the Coyotes had Barrie. He is what he is and that is a very flawed D man who cares little for D.

Defensive lapses outweigh his offensive pluses too much now? What if he was paired with a Hammer, OEL of Chychrun? I know he is a liability, but if he is closer to first half of the season Goligoski than current half he would be a nice add.

He plays zero defence. Not a little, zero. And he's going to be asking for bank.

Yeah and we are adding Soderstrom most likely. If we can replace Goligoski with Soderstorm and add a solid 3rd pairing guy I think we are still alright on defense. Justin Braun, Dillon or Gudas could all be great fits and probably better for us cap wise.
OEL-Demers
Chychrun-Soda
Hammer-Gudas

Even if if his signing bonus is paid, and I'm throwing in an absolutely free Antti Raanta. And I'm talking to Ottawa?

Asking a team to take on 10+ mil in cap like this seems unrealistic. Especially for two average players.

One name I kind of circled was Stepan to CBJ to reunite with Torts. Maybe for Wennberg. We cut like 1.5 mil in cap and take on the remaining years of Wennberg’s deal.

I thought Ottawa wanted dead cap because they wanted to circumvent the floor. Like us a couple of years ago.

FYI ... Hayton getting his first game in tonight with the Roadrunners. Centering the top line with Brayden Burke and Michael Chaput.

Hayton had a nifty play on the first powerplay goal as well. Received an awkward pass with his skate and 1 touch passes to a teammate to relieve the PK pressure. He would have gotten the 3rd assist on that goal if such a thing existed.

You'll never see Kessel benched by this coaching staff, his Ironman streak is more valuable than their integrity.

Have a feeling Hayton will slot in full time once hes back up here. Just not getting anything from Grabner/Fischer.

Kessel has to be one of the biggest disappointments we've had in a looooooooong time. I was thinking back in October that I'd be disappointed with anything less than 70 points. Jokes on me, because the guy might not crack 50. He's essentially come to AZ and retired. He'll never be scratched, because Tocc loves him and he won't want to ruin his ironman streak.

This is the exact Kessel I was worried about getting and I was criticized for being too negative on this board. He's made a bunch of money. He's won cups playing with two centers better than anyone he will ever play with here. Throw in the mild climate that seems to make everyone softer when they get here and you have pretty high odds that we were going to get huge fall off in play. I don't know if Tocc being friends with him can help motivate him enough to turn it around or if that friendship makes it worse. Would be nice if he was at least a PP specialist though. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Will Kessel join the likes of Tony Amonte, Olli Jokinen, and Mike Ribeiro?
