Bernier is giving up the same rebounds, or worse.

Anyone who's being honest with themselves can see it.

Anybody who's not caught in a fandom can see the strengths and weakness between both goalies... Bernier's strength over Reimer is his ability to freeze pucks dead rather you want to admit it or not that's a fact.

I love both of them but I'll wait until I see who is the clear cut winner before I see who gets traded. Bernier definitely shows he has immense skill hands down.

I can see Reimer being our #1 if it were not for his rebound control. He could be elite if he could suck the puck up like Bernier. That being said I still think Bernier will be our starter by mid-season.

Lol what? For every rebound Bernier gives up, Reimer gives 5 more. Don't be blind to notice that rebound control is one of Bernier strengths.

For every game Bernier has played Reimer has played 5 more.

Pretty equal goalies tbh. I'm curious how bernier would play for us in a playoff situation though and would he collapse just like reimer and team did last year in a game 7 type situation.

They're two very different goaltenders, with very different playing styles. It's more than just counting rebounds every night.

You can't be serious.

How can I NOT be serious? Including his injured time, with him in net the team has posted a .577 points percentage. If you remove his injured time they post a 0.636 points percentage. To put that into perspective for you, with Reimer in nets this bottom feeder team has produced at a pace that would set all time records for points by a Maple Leafs team.

Obviously people can dicker over whether it is or is not fair to remove that but of the below, which strikes you as an outlier:

.925
.920
.921
.900
.924
.933

If those are Bernier sv% than that is really solid considering he had a few loses this year.

What's relevant is how they play this year, on the same team.

You don't pay your backup more than your starter. That's too much money invested in a guy who will pay 20-25 games.

Let's not trade either goal tender. Let's keep them both Reimer and Bernier so they can both bring us to the promise land. I'm loving the 1a and 1b situation and it's being handled much better than the Vancouver goalie situation.

Yet Bernier has played more games than Reimer has this year.

The start count would be almost the same if not for Leivo running Reimer over.

I'm also willing to bet that if Reimer was 5-4 and Bernier 3-0 you'd choose to ignore the number of starts altogether.

3 games is a very small sample size. He'll probably drop to a. 920 sv% if he played more, based off his body of work

You can't prove either of these claims. Reimer didn't play because Carlyle wanted Bernier. Simple as that.

Yes, and Reimer would have been 3-1 if Bernier didn't save his ass.

Also Bernier has the most wins and most minutes out of both goaltender so I don't ignore those two stats as well.

Then to date, the argument still stands doesn't it given one guy sits at .933 and a points percentage of 1.000?

C'mon that is such a small size sample. Before the game, Reimer sv% was .913 and in one game it sky-rocketed to .933.

See what one game can do to a goalie's sv%?

Let's be real here. Both goalies want to play as the #1. Neither will be OK with 41 starts. That's not how it works. Reimer can help the team bring in players to fill other areas of weakness. Trading him by the draft is our best option. Or sell high at the deadline if a team is desperate
