The Oil Kings start off their preseason tonight in Red Deer @ 7 PM.

Their pre-season roster has been announced: Pre-Season Roster Announced – Edmonton Oil Kings

Andrew Peard has been named as Oil Kings PBP, as Corey Graham has taken a leave of absence. He has worked with the Calgary Mustangs and, lately, with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL, as PBP and Sales/Communications Manager.

Logan Moon scored twice and Vince Loschiavo had a goal and an assist, but the Oil Kings fell to the Rebels 6-5. Quinn Benjafield and Brett Kemp had the other goals, with Will Warm, Kobe Verbicky, Trey Fix-Wolnsky, Aiden Lawson and Keegan Slaney adding an assist each. Sebastien Cossa played the first 40 minutes and made 26 saves on 31 shots. Boston Bilous (L) played 17:46 of the third and made 5 saves on 6 shots. hots were 37-35 for Red Deer. PP was 0/4 and the PK 4/7.

Last Saturday, Vladimir Alistrov had 2 assists and Todd Scott (W) made 11 saves over the first 40 minutes, as the Oil Kings beat the Ice 4-2. Liam Keeler, Jalen Luypen, Andrei Pavlenko and Ty Gerla had the goals, with Logan Dowhaniuk, Ethan Cap and Brett Kemp adding additional assists. Boston Bilous played the 3rd period, stopping 9 of 10 shots. Shots were 32-22 for Edmonton, PP was 0/3, PK was 5/5.

Last night, Jake Neighbours had 2 assists, but the OKs lost 6-5 in OT to Calgary. Vladimir Alistrov, Dylan Guenther, David Kope, Matthew Robertson and Andrei Pavelko scored a goal each, with Jacson Alexander, Vince Losciavo, Jalen Luypen and Carter Souch adding an assist each. Boston Bilous payed the first 40 minutes, stopping 14 of 16 shots. Sebastian Cossa (L) played 22:21 stopping 16 of 20 shots. Shots were 36-28 for the Hitmen. PP was 1/4, PK 2/4. Edmonton won 36 of 74 faceoffs.

Last Saturday, the Oil Kings lost 6-2 to the Hitmen in Carstairs. Liam Keeler and Jaden Luypen scored for the OKs, with Quinn Benjafield and Andrei Pavlenko adding assists. Todd Scott (L) made 28 saves. Shots were 40-34 for Edmonton. PP was 2/10, PK was 4/7.

Had a really fun time at the game tonight.

Also, judging from my untrained ear, it sounds like the Oilers playoff horn is back. It's got that twisted de-tuned sound to it again - and I love it!

Vince Loschiavo (named first star) had 2 goals, including the game winner, Trey Fix-Wolansky (named third star) had 3 assists and Boston Bilous (W 1-0-0) made 20 saves for his first WHL victory, as the Oil Kings (1-0-0) disbanded the Rebels 4-2. Bret Kemp and Connor McDonald had the other goals. Bilous, David Kope (named second star) and Matthew Robertson added an assist each. Shots were 43-22 for Edmonton. PP was 2/5, PK 2/2. The OKs won 25 of 63 faceoffs.

The top guys are a year older and, with new coaching, there could be a chance. Fix-Wolansky should have a good year points wise. Robertson's in his draft year so we should see him show why he's considered a first round pick in June. Todd Scott got injured but, with Miskiw filling in, hopefully the goaltending will be good.

This season might be a little easier for me, as there's 4 less games in the Dub, and upwards of 6 players in the O and Q, which ends a lot earlier in the evening. They usually have their highlights up by 11 PM.

Good start for the boys.

Hoping they can find a way into the playoffs. It would be criminal if Fix-Wolansky never sees a playoff game with all he's given this team.

Carter Souch, Quinn Benjafield, Vladimir Alistrov and Matthew Robertson added assists. Shots were 35-33 Medicine Hat. PP was 0/1, PK was 3/4. Edmonton won 22 of 52 faceoffs.
