Gotta think Tampa and NYI are happy with Pittsburgh.
Barely dress an NHL caliber lineup; give up a lead late in the game to lose.

In a perfect world, it would have been ridiculously funny having the Leafs lose out the rest of the season and miss hahaha.

At least in Tampa's case, if they got in, it would be after beating a depleted Montreal squad, though.

I don't think we're good enough to beat either of those red hot teams. If I got to pick one team to lose to, I would choose Anaheim by a mile.

I don't really know what to expect going into the playoffs other than a swift elimination.

The 3M line is cold, you can't really rely on Johnny and that line to provide clutch late goals anymore, the PP flatters to deceive, and our defense (outside of Hamilton) just doesn't provide offensive support anymore.

The only things we're gonna have going for us is Elliott and the C of red. I hope that'll be enough to steal more than one game though

I think the Flames can beat any team, if they play their game. But that's the key, when they play their system they have success. All teams elevate their play in the post season, if Bennett and Lazar keep playing well, we have 4 lines that can all contribute. We might not be favourites, but we have the tools to get it done.

True, but every team can beat the Flames if they play their game, too. I just remain unconvinced that the Flames are more likely to win than either Anaheim or Edmonton.

The Flames have "played" their game in each of the games down the final stretch after their winning streak was snapped. Their problem is that they never play their game long enough to put the game out of reach (see: all the Edmonton games bar the last one, the recent LA loss at home, the 3-1 Anaheim game at the Ponda)

The Edmonton games were virtually all before they put their game together. The LA game was one of their worst of the season, and the Anaheim game at the pond, where they did actually play their game, they could easily have won if not for some poor goaltending and bad bounces.

But the Flames aren't good enough to definitively beat good teams. They haven't really done that all season more than a handful of times. That's what worries me. I think if the Flames are at their best and their opposition is, too, the Flames will need a bit of luck to win the game. And to win 4 out of 7 would require a lot of luck.

Really hope I'm wrong, though.

I'm not disagreeing with you. A few weeks ago, I said that there are not many teams that we could realistically push to 6 games.

This team is too guilty of taking its foot off the pedal too early and letting teams back into games. The LA game is a prime example of their lack of sharpness. The first five minutes it was all Flames. Then once they got the first goal they were content and decided to try to rough em up for good measure and embarrass them further. It didn't work and we paid the price.

And if they don't sit back, they chase games and forget their system and defensive structure. You won't see a better example of that than the 4-3 loss to the Ducks which in reality should've been a 7-1 thrashing if it wasn't for Elliott and a fortuitous 5 on 3.

The team isn't mature enough to be a playoff contender, but the experience will still help.

I think we are good enough to beat Edmonton in a 7 game series. I don't want to lose to them, you're right, but we can win in Edmonton.

Even when they're hot, as long as Elliott is on his game, we have much a better chance of beating them.

For me, the sample size going back to around December has shown enough. The win streak is unsustainable, but I've seen enough signs in their game where they can match and play with the best teams. They'll need luck regardless, but I like our roster.
