As others have pointed out, but you fail to acknowledge simply because it doesn't fit your schtick or agenda is that Marchand has cut way back on the dumb penalties and had his "diving" penalties this year rescinded. Also, he's one of the only B's (along with Pasta) that can create his own offense, and actually has enough speed to make the opposing D respect it. Add in the PK ability and shot and he's not a player that you "throw into" a deal to move up a few spots.

I would bet good money that if Marchand played in a less defensively responsible system, he'd put up 30 annually.

Marchand is the Bruins best skilled winger, but some people can't grasp that.

 is it that bothersome? We are criticizing him, it's a common thing on these boards

It's that after awhile it starts to look like his is the only opinion that we see out there. :)

Button always comes up with something to tear down, it is his routine. He might be the person behind Eklund

He did look good. Not saying I would take him at 14, and I have not watched him as much as some here, but I just don't see the Hamill comparisons?

 is it that bothersome? We are criticizing him, it's a common thing on these boards

It is actually.

How many times does it need to be pointed out that his lists are different from the mainstream every year and that it's likely done on purpose for entertainment value? How many times does it need to be said that it's not a mock draft.

In the overall scheme of things it means less than nothing, but it is still annoying. Maybe as I get older, and have less time left, I just like wasting it less repeating myself?

I really don't think it's done for entertainment purposes. I mean, look at when Bobby Mac's rankings come out. Button writes the scouting reports on them.

I truly believe Button believes in his rankings and kudos to him for not following the norm. I don't agree with it but at least he goes with what he sees.

I'm beginning to lean toward Merkley over Meier, if that is the choice. I'm seeing some less than glowing reports on Meier on the main prospects board. His super late birthdate, and total lack of production last year scare me. Love the size and shooting, but I just don't want another Jordan Caron with this pick.

Merkley is far younger (~8 months), produced much better over a two year period, and is having a monstrous playoff.

I'd rather Connor or Konecny over either, but this is how I'm leaning in the above scenario.

Looking for top end talent in this draft, I'd like to see Sweeney move up to get Werenski and Guryanov. Maybe that's asking too much, but that'd be a huge draft year for Boston.

It's funny how the more research I do the more my preferences change. At first I was all aboard the Meier train but now I have fallen out of love with him a bit. Also, I am leaning towards drafting a defenceman at 14 more than before. Roy or Konecny would be my pick at 14, assuming Connor etc are gone.

Thanks for the list, Hamilton-Roy-Krug would certainly give us more speed and points/offense.

It would be a change in our blue line, Chara-Seids slower stronger shutdown players going away and we'd have 3 speedster with offense instead.
3 future 40-50 point blue liners? Should be good for playoff races.

But I'm still dreaming that someone drops so we get a top forward propect.

I made a mistake (not the first time or the last)

Dean Malkoc still scouting the WHL for the Bruins.

Increases the likelihood that someone from the Dub is picked at 14

Where's Colt when you need him.

Judging by your previous hints of Neely and Sweeney looking for players with jam and compete, would you think they're targeting one or more of: Bittner, Harkins, Carlo or do you think they go more skill like Merkley or Debrusk?

Would love for Provorov or Barzal to be the WHL player available at 14 but I doubt they make it out of the top-10. :(

Yeesh, I hope they don't pass on top talent at 14 just to pick less talented players because they have "jam". I want nothing to do with those guys at 14.

Provorov is gone by 9 at the latest, probably sooner (PHI at 7?)

Sticking with my list. We need D help. !st: Chabot, Pilon, Carlo. 2nd: Meloche, Brisebois, Launon.

I have been looking at d-men, and I don't have an issue with taking one at 14 (if a high end F doesn't fall), but I believe Carlo and Pilon are late 1st-early 2nd round picks.

The guy who is growing on me is Zboril. He's 6'2", so he has room to add weight as he matures. He skates very well and jumps into the offense when the opportunity is there, but doesn't seem to force it. He also has a bit of a nasty streak and looks at home playing along the boards. He plays like a d-man (first) who can contribute offensively, not a forward masquerading as a d-man.

I'm not sure who the B's Q scout is now, but (as DKH and I were discussing this morning) the B's had to have seen this kid while they were watching Pasta at the WJC's. Added bonus would be DP would have a buddy to talk to.

Red Line had two of their scouts do a Mock Draft (not rankings) in USA Today a couple of days ago and whomever did it (Kirk?)has Zboril going to the B's at 14 (or possibly Chabot):

I thought Dom/someone mentioned we were looking at Zboril?

edit:"Not surprised he(Zboril) is on the Bruins radar at 14. " So there is atleast a chance.
Would they look at him as a future 2nd pairing physical D watching over Krug for example?
If they look at Krug and Hamilton and think they are Bruins for a long time, both of them are offensive d-players with great skating, which I love and think that they have to find Chara/seids type of player from this years draft to play with them?

I appreciate this compilation, thanks. If you had the time and interest, I would love to see your next dozen or so to see what's lying around #37. I'm still on the Meier train but my 2nd choice there is Roy. If we get a forward in 1st, have liked some of things I've read about Matthew Spencer for 2nd round.

eg. Future Considerations says "A big, mean, physical presence from the blueline…strong and steady on defense, and he uses his size to his advantage to control players along the boards, to lay out some big hits and to eliminate opponents from the play…plays a simple, yet effective game on defense, using his size and stick to make plays and contain his man…he breaks up plays with his aggressiveness and is strong down low…offensive game is raw as he shows good outlets and mostly safe first feeds out of his zone…not a natural puck rusher, but will join the attack…shows off a hard shot from the point."

Anyone else heard anything about this kid that would make him a good pick at 37?

Definitely seems like a consensus top 12, which is unfortunate. Reminds me of 2011 when there seemed to be a really solid top 6 or 7, and I thought the Bruins would've had to settle for a Ryan Murphy or Nathan Beaulieu at 9. Dougie ended up dropping though, which was pretty unexpected. All it takes is for one team to have some other player higher on their draft board though.

Here's my official top 30, including where I think the talent drops are. Also included comparisons and bio's from my favorite NHL draft website, TheHockeyWriters, check it out.

To reiterate, these rankings and talent tiers are MINE, the links are bio's and style comps from my favorite NHL draft site, not me.

Thanks a lot for this - just quick look at lunch but great source to check out tonight. I like others want a defenseman at 14 like Roy or Zborial. If you hit here you are in great shape going forward with 3 offensive players on the backline under 25
