Believe it or not, we get mosquitoes here in the desert too, just not NEARLY as bad as other places I've lived. Maine? Awful. NE Mass, terrible. Even West Florida was bad. Here, I'll deal with the heat not to have brutal cold or brutal mosquitoes.
For sure, man. That's one of the toughest things about camping up here. You just get absolutely destroyed by mosquitoes. You definitely have to take the good with the bad in that situation.

What do y’all think about Italian deserts? I feel like the sugar cookies and cakes are usually dry. Gelato is good but I’d rather have ice cream. Cannolis are fine but I don’t love them.

I do think it would be unfair if Italian deserts were super delicious. They already have incredible dinner and cappuccino so something has to give I guess.

I'd put tiramisu up against anything, though I also make it myself.

As for servers, my mom was a waitress growing up and my ex-wife was too, so I always overtip if anything. I also realize that adding just a couple of bucks might make the tip seem quite generous and let the server know s/he did a good job, and to me it only costs a couple of bucks. And I like to think I'm extra patient with new servers too. Everyone's been new at their job at some point. The one thing that really bugs me is the completely absent server. I get it that sometimes you're short-staffed, but it still irks me when you go 20-30 minutes without even seeing them, especially when you're trying to get your check.

Around this time of year, I'll go through a Dunkin drive through, get one of my usuals (large iced coffee, large hot latte), pay with a twenty, and say "Keep the change, it's Christmas!". The look on the face in the window is worth the extra $$. Just the other day a girl tried to open my hand and shove the money back at me, but I wouldn't let her.

Always like to hear/see this. I usually pay for meals behind me when I go through drive-through this time of the year. I figure a small gesture can go a long way over the holiday season.

It's extremely upsetting to me to see the people at Dunks make my hot tea by filling the cup with water first and then putting the bag in. That's not how it's done.

I drink loose leaf tea, at home I use a teapot and put the leaves in the basket, at work I just pour hot water right over the leaves, then strain it into a second cup.

I'm also a fan of putting the milk in first then pouring the tea if it's a black tea or chai. The texture and mouth feel is more evenly distributed that way.

I'm the same way with new people on the job. Although I can't prove it I'm quite sure my local bank branch makes a point of having their new tellers do my transactions whenever I'm in there because I'm so patient with them. I know how hard it is to do your job when a client is watching and waiting for you, I still get nervous 37 years in!

As discussed before, I worked for Stop & Shop all through college and high school. About 12 years after I quit, I was there shopping for a few items and got in line at the checkout. The poor cashier was obviously new, and her supervisor stopped her in the middle of my few items to berate her for getting an item wrong in a previous sale. She was actually holding up a bag of tomatoes and asking the poor girl to tell her what kind of tomatoes they were (greenhouse, ugli, roma, beefsteak, etc.), answering "nope" every time she got it wrong.

I lit into the supervisor like a house afire. Told her the girl was waiting on me, she can do her silly "guess the tomato" quiz later. I also told her how unprofessional it was to berate employees in front of the customers, and the only one doing something wrong was her. Dropped the name of her regional manager, too. She turned sheet white, mumbled an apology, then slinked away.

FWIW,
the only correct answer when it comes to tomatoes is Roma.

Tea from Dunkies is disgusting.

I agree with you that it is always bag first then water.

Anyone who mistreats a pet deserves to be fired into a lava pit. There is no room in this world for this type of behavior.

We dodged a bullet last night with Finn. My mom had to rush him to VCA because he had some sort of attack. They couldn't find anything wrong with him and think something got caught in his throat and when my mom picked him up it dislodged and he was fine.

Scared the crap out of us both and my sister's dog. He seems to be himself today which is a relief. He's 1 1/2 and I can't imagine life without him.
I work for a vet and you would be surprised at how many animal injuries there are where they supposedly don't know exactly what happened. There are many cases where we expect possible abuse followed by guilt. I always hope they really were accidents. People who don't want animals should not own them.
Also, NEVER give a dog as a Christmas gift unless the person specifically requested it. Always adopt it possible!:)

agreed, what angers me more is how many people have these pets yet don`t walk them or give them all they need. To own a pet is a massive commitment (I`ll speak only on dogs as I`m terribly allergic to cats). Prior to Mrs Odaat and I adopting our previous Beagle who was a rescue whose owner lost her husband and she was to frail to offer him what he needed, we sat down and asked each other a few things

A) can we financially afford a dog, can get expensive

B) are we committed to giving this dog , specifically this breed all that they require to maintain their spirit?

Meaning are we going to be THAT pet owner who let`s their dog out in the yard and deems that to be "excercise" or are we the type who will be willing to pile all of us into our car and hit great trails/parks, expose him/her to other dogs and get some solid bonding and exercise time?

We have tons of dogs in our little condo community here, if I were to ball park the average length of walk my neighbors take their dogs on I don`t think I would be underestimating it if I were to say about 10 minutes and they scream at their pooches because all they do is bark the second they get outside

Something else I despise is watching owners yank on their dogs by the neck when they are frustrated with them, like to yank the owner`s by the neck and see how that suits their fancy

I know not everyone is able to do this financially and my wife and I are so grateful we are but we send Miss Penny (avatar) on daily pack walks with this great woman who takes 4 other dogs Monday to Friday on loads of different trails around Victoria, goes for 90 minute walks on these trails, gets great socialization and exercise and while I still give her a nice walk in the afternoon, it`s one that isn`t as taxing on her body as hitting a trail can be at times. All this pays off in spades when it comes to behavior, when it comes to times Mrs Odaat and I have to go out for a few hours, we know Penny has been well exercised and will not sit and bark for hours

I`ve said it often, if we had more space and a fenced in yard, we`d have a half dozen pooches, few things are more selfless than and fulfilling than providing a 4 legged friend with a great life
What did Caesar Milan say? “Exercise, Discipline & Affection!”

With our previous dog, I did the walking every day. When we got Furley, I had a dislocated shoulder, so my husband has walked him 2-3mi every day. It’s great for BOTH of them.

Huh?? Not at all! Maybe I misread. I saw you say something about mistreating and never once did I consider that to be the case. My apologies if you took it the wrong way.

I accept your apology.

I said anyone who mistreats any animal deserves to be fired into a lava pit.

The vet suspects he got either food or part of a chewy stuck and when my mom picked him up it dislodged. Aside for a shot of anti nausea medication, all his vitals looked normal.

He was back to eating and playing ball with his cousin like normal this morning.

The rawhide treats can be dangerous as they can be swallowed in large portions once they become soft. We treated a very sick dog a couple springs ago. The dog had apparently been taking rawhide treats outside and leaving them all winter. Once the spring thaw came the dog went outside for an all you can eat spongy rawhide buffet and got a bad blockage. It ended well for the dog.
We recommend the job rawhide treats. Petsmart in Danvers has them.

Woops, non rawhide treats. Sorry about the dog ramble but it's something I'm very passionate about.:)

My dogs get split elk antler. Harder then rocks or shin bones.
Neither my bully or shepherd can or ever has fragmented one.
They are expensive but last weeks.

How’s their teeth? I used to use a plastic frisbee with my dog for a few years until I noticed some wear on her teeth. Now I just use fabric ones you can get at tractor supply, the only problem is it’s ripped apart in an hour lol.

You must buy split. The antler is stronger than a dogs teeth. But split is no worries.
