Why give up assets for OEL, when you can retain Krug for free, or get AP in a similar deal without giving up assets.
Probably because OEL can play all minutes in any situation and Krug would get caved in against top competition, and cost almost as much. They already have McAvoy and Carlo on the right, so AP means more money than OEL and diminishing returns on sorting the roster.

I feel like either Benning is about to overpay despite his leverage or Boston is gonna get OEL at a very reasonable cost.

If OEL comes to van, I think either him or Hughes could play the right side.

Hughes on RD makes more sense than putting Edler or OEL on the right side. Quinn is much more of a rover offensively anyway and his skating makes up for the defensive deficiency of playing on the wrong side.

This does make sense. Whether or not it's legit, it is logical.

it actually doesn’t make sense since a markstrom deal shouldn’t hold things up because there should even be more cap room if we don’t sign marky. no contract gives us more cap room then a discount markstrom.

this guy was in the gutters before Vancouver and he was revivd here with the support we had...its not alwasy roses whenever you depart to a different city...yes the money and term might be great but if your play sucks is it worth it? (ie. Ehrhoff)

If the above post is true and if he signs, OEL is coming right after then it sounds like the team is going for teh cup this year that could be another point for Marky
How do any of those things apply if he’s just being signed as a placeholder to be moved to Seattle?

likely they think that acquiring OEL moves their window for the cup to now...so if they can get OEL + Marky they will probably be gunning for the cup this year? if no Marky then maybe they dont want to give up the assets for OEL if they dont see themselves as a strong contender?

Benning is on his presser right now.

He specially mentions Hoglander and young guys making the team on ELC. Hoglander/Podkolzin being being very important to the team cuz of their ELCs and flat cap.

I think we can safely say that Podz and Hoglander are not going to be involved in any OEL trade if it happens

one of the reports said that they tried to structure his contract makes him less attractive to pry to Seattle

if he wants to gamble to stay in Seattle that's his call but thats probably why negotiations have lasted this long
