Uh, no. The worst thing that Norman did was quite a bit worse than some shoving. It was a knee to OBJ's head.

OK, but that was after the spear. So it has nothing to do with the claim about OBJ "taking matters into his own hands".

The worst thing that Norman did to provoke OBJ's reaction was throw him to the ground. OBJ retaliated in turn on a later play, then continued to smack Norman in the head. By that point he had clearly had the larger part in the confrontation and the announcers were openly questioning why he hadn't been ejected.

THEN he threw the hit to the head. At that point he wasn't taking anything into his own hands, he was just going nuts on the field in a way that could've been the NFL equivalent to a Bertuzzi moment.

Ron Rivera says "no more bats", "It's the No Fun League for a reason".

If the Panthers have any difficulties coming out of this, it is only because their reputation precedes them and like it or not, they do have a reputation as being a team that plays a little bit dirty. Again, doesn't bother me personally, I would prefer a little more "dirtiness" in the league but you can't just ignore this stuff if you're going to prosecute every little other thing that comes down the pike.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black....

Though yeah, there's no way the NFL can claim that they care about concussions and allow the crap OBJ did to go unpunished, they had to do something.

Here's an interesting tidbit:

A Giants source told ESPN's Ian O'Connor Monday that Giants players on the field heard Panthers defensive players directing anti-gay slurs and expletives at Beckham before the game.

Anti-gay slurs? Not just plain old gay slurs? Hmmmmm....

Not sure what you mean by this, please elaborate. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that remark was not of a personal nature toward myself. I hope.

It's a Bountygate reference, but in the ~20 seconds or so between my post and yours I changed my mind. The Panthers could easily get a reputation of that sort.

^ I do not tend to let my opinions be influenced by who is a division rival to my team or whatever. Especially when my team happens to be totally irrelevant ATM. I think we are all mature and mentally capable enough of forming an opinion through impartial means. It's not particularly controversial to say the Panthers play on the edge, I doubt anyone who's really watched them over the course of the last few seasons could really claim otherwise.

UR penalties:

14: Baltimore
13: Tampa
10: Denver
9: Seattle, Carolina, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh
7: Tennessee, San Diego, Washington, Oakland, NYJ, NYG, New Orleans

UC penalties:

6: San Francisco
5: Buffalo, San Diego
4: Carolina, Cleveland, Denver, Tennessee, Kansas City
3: Green Bay, New Orleans, Pittsburgh

They have one taunting penalty this year. 14 teams have at least one, and the Bengals and Bills have two.

Dilfer makes it sound like they're abnormally high. They're above average. I'd still like to see some of these dirty plans, or at least reference them.

Josh Norman was dirty all game, let's not forget this guy fought his QB in training camp..but what Odell did was inexcusable.

have to say as a neutral observer that the entertainment factor this matchup brought was unbelievable. Odell took it too far with the diving helmet to head but otherwise it was a great matchup to watch and a nice comeback for the giants with a great finish by Cam. Favorite game I watched of the week for me

I'd be completely fine with the suspension if they suspended the Steelers player for what was an objectively worse hit the same day.

Is clearly selective policing by suspending one and not the other, though.

I'm actually curious if it gets overturned or not (not trusting Jaws). It seems like most active players who have spoken about the situation feel that it doesn't warrant a suspension.

Just gonna wait for the official decision. No reliable reporter has said anything and few of the tweets I've seen came before or shortly after the hearing supposedly ended. They might end up being right but I think they're probably just guesses right now.

The point is selective policing. It's typical NFL ********. If the NFL is going to suspend one player, players committing worse acts need to be suspended.

Ehh... I think Beckham's act was worse. Much worse, actually. It was a clear target and hit to the head.
