Vegas team did their 10-win streak. What is strange, Detroit Red Wings never ever had a 10-game winning streak.

Another weird one is Edmonton Oilers. Surely you'd think they put together atleast one 10 game winning streak during the Wayne Gretzky era, but no, never happened for the Oilers in any season.

Weird.

They had a 9-game winning streak in 1950-51. In 1951-52, they went 13 games without losing (12-0-1) on the way to the Cup.

They also had two 9-game winning streaks in 1995-96.

Edmonton started the 1984-85 season at 12-0-3, which at the time was the longest undefeated streak to start a season (I think).

What was Edmonton's longest winning streak? 8 games?

Edmonton's team record in 9 game winning streak (during 2000-01 season).

During Gretzky's time they topped at 8 games several times during the regular season. In 1985 playoffs they did start with 9 game winning streak though.

Similar idea: Kristers Gudlevskis is the only player to have played in the ECHL, AHL, NHL, Olympics, and World Championships in the same season (2013-14). Won a game in everything but the Olympics (though he did help Latvia nearly upset Canada).

Another similar one, Brandon Montour played in the USHL, NCAA then AHL all in the same season. I doubt anyone else has done that.

It took Sidney Crosby 5 years to score a goal against the Anaheim Ducks. (he finally scored during the 2010-11 season)

Four.
Vadim Karaga and Andrei Kostitsyn 2003
Kevin Fiala 2014
Jack Hughes 2019

I knew Belarus had two, and thought it was a Kostitsyn involved. Just couldn't remember and didn't want to look it up.

Totally forgot about Fiala and Hughes though.

The 1983-84 WSH had a bad start of the season. But how it then turned around!
1983-84 Washington Capitals Roster and Statistics | Hockey-Reference.com
Lost 7 first games!
Then won 5 straight.
Later on won 10 straight.
During 2nd half of season (games 41-80), they were clearly the best team overall, both in pts and goal differential. And even more outstanding was their 84 goals against. During the first half, they allowed 142 goals.

It actually coincides with defenseman Peter Andersson playing. When he started play, after 32 games (14-16-2), they were 30-9-3 in the 42 games he played (and 4-2 when he didn't play).

The defensive accomplishments didn't go unnoticed.
Rod Langway won 2nd straight Norris and finished 2nd in Hart (after outstanding Gretzky). Scott Stevens 7th in AST voting.
Doug Jarvis won Selke. Bengt-Åke Gustafsson and Glen Currie also got Selke votes (14th and 16th), as well as two on Gaetan Duchesne and one on Dave Christian.
Goalies Riggin and Jensen both finished tied for 3rd in Vezina. They actually were close to Barrasso and Lemelin, and if combining their votes would have won comfortably.

And wingers Bengt-Åke Gustafsson (7h, although just 1%) and Mike Gartner (9th, although just 0.36%) had at least someone voting for them.
Center was a difficult position as only 7 centers got AST votes, with Gretzky being outstanding).

Marian Gaborik was close. He played on WCH U20 and WCH U18 in season 1999/2000. Yeah, also in season before, but this one is important.
He played very well for Dukla Trencin (5-goal game, 25-goals season). But he was cut from Slovakia senior team. Jan Filc said, it could be too much for him to play also on senior Championships.
Slovakia won Silver that time.

Wayne Gretzky - first NHL goal - Oct 14, 1979 - against Glenn Hanlon and the Vancouver Canucks.

I always found it interesting that his first WHA goal was against the Edmonton Oilers (Dave Dryden - October 20, 1978) -- and he would join them about two weeks later.

Thanks. The source material I got the information from is proving to be quite unreliable. Recently I've noticed other errors in it as well.

No harm done about the 1928 mistake...the US sent two teams in 1948 to make up for it!

Patrick Roy up until about 1997 had only won against the Flyers once in the regular season. What a bizarre stat for an all-time great goalie.

I am pretty sure it wasn't until 1998 where Wayne Gretzky scored a goal against Ed Belfour. I just seem to remember that conversation at the time and Belfour sort of laughing and saying "You can't stop him forever." As per the stats, Gretzky does score against Belfour on November 7, 1997.

Chicago, from 1975 through 1979, lost 16 straight playoff games. Tony Esposito was in goal for every one.

One more (which I happened to stumble upon while looking up something else):

In the first 57 years of NHL history, nobody had ever scored 5 points on the powerplay in a single game.

The first instance was on January 4th, 1975 - when both Phil Esposito and Guy Lafleur did that. And no - it wasn't against each other. Boston played Minnesota that night, and the Habs the Capitals.
