Cool. And today, Chara, Thornton, and Marleau are the last active players to have played against Wayne Gretzky. Chara the last defenceman.

What's crazy about Howe's span (obviously) is the distance of time. He played with a teammate of Jaromir Jagr's, and he also played with a teammate of Eddie Shore's (Roy Conacher).

I find it interesting that Howe held the goals record until March 23, 1994 but he never recorded a 50 goal season. Although he also never scored less than 20 goals from 1949-50 onward and has 14 seasons over 30 goals :O.

Well, his prime was 70-game seasons when scoring was lower than now and 50-goal seasons basically didn't exist.

Going by the Hockey Ref's "Adjusted Stats" thing (highly flawed, but useful for historical players to get rough ideas), which gives us projected numbers according to League historical averages, Howe would have had about five 50-goal seasons (incl. a 65-ish goal season) in longer, 82-game-ish, historically average scoring-level seasons.

Joe Cirella played for both the Colorado Rockies and the Florida Panthers, which I guess probably isn't all that weird to most, but to me it just feels like there was a much longer gap between those teams' existences. (He briefly played for the Sens too)

Brad Marsh is similar to Cirella. He played for the Atlanta Flames (1978-80) as well as the Ottawa Senators (1992-93).

Thats right. But also Jussi Jokinen has an amazing and somehow unlucky career.

He wasnt in Stanley Cup finals. But he was on Carolina roster in 2008/2009 - they lost in Conference finals to Pittsburgh. In 2012/2013 he switched to Pittsburgh. After 2013/2014 he was gone (Florida). Pens won 2 Cups in 2016 and 2017.

Now to international Competitions. This picture borrowed from Eliteprospects tells it very precisely:

View attachment 346917

Just randomly looked up Jokinen's stats and saw that he played for FOUR teams in 2017-2018 - Edmonton, LA, Columbus and Vancouver.

Three other guys have done that:

-Dennis O'Brien: Played for the North Stars, Rockies, Barons and Bruins in 1977-1978
-Dave McLlwain: Played for the Jets, Islanders, Sabres and Leafs in 1991-19992
-Mark Arcobello: Played for the Oilers, Penguins, Predators and Coyotes in 2014-2015

The Blackhawks in the early 90s had a string of 11 straight playoff wins followed up right after by losing their next 10 straight playoff games

This is silly.

Another silly thing: Dirk Graham scored a natural hat trick vs the Penguins in the decisive game 4 of the 1992 SC finals. Graham scored 17 goals in 90 playoff games, four of them while being swept by the Penguins. Almost half of the Blackhawks’ goals those finals were scored by Graham. What a captain!

I am pretty sure Jaromir Jagr was the last active guy to play a game in a few of the old classic arenas; Chicago Stadium, Boston Garden and The Montreal Forum and Thornton and Marleau are the last guys left to play a game at Maple Leaf Gardens

Granted that last season wasn´t full season, but Columbus got 458 PIMs and Arizona 454 PIMs. Both in 70 games. Thats less than Dave Schultz 472 PIMs in 1974-1975 playing 76 games

In full season Carolina got 476 PIMS in full season in 2016-2017. Thats just four more than Schultz.

What is the record today for most shots on goal by one player in one game? Back on February 24, 1968 - against the Montreal Canadiens, in Montreal - Rod Gilbert had 16 shots on net, and scored 4 times. It's one thing to have a night like that against an expansion team. It's quite another thing to do it against a team in the midst of a five-straight-trips-to-the-Finals streak.

The record is Ray Bourque, who had 19 shots against the Quebec Nordiques - Quebec Nordiques - Boston Bruins - March 21st, 1991

It was a 3-3 tie and Bourque had a goal and an assist.

Does anyone know the most points a player has ever put up in a single season while still being an overall negative in +/-? I know Turgeon put up 132 points in 92/93 and was -1. Can anyone top that?

Wayne came close with his -25 in the Kings' disastrous 1994 season where he scored 130 (albeit a lot of his minuses were accrued when the team had thrown in the towel on the season). But doesn't quite "beat" Turgeon.

It appears the winner here is big Mario in 1985-86. He was -8 with 141 points scored. That's followed by Stastny in 1982, a -10 with 132 points. (These examples kind of show the limitation of plus/minus...)

Jaromir Jagr was (likely) the last active NHL player to have played with teammates of Gordie Howe (Jagr played with Gordie Roberts who was a teammate of Howe in 79/80)
Gordie Roberts scored the first goal in Whalers NHL history in a 4-1 defeat to the North Stars in 1979.

The first Whalers home game was not in Hartford, it was in Springfield, Mass as the HCC was still being repaired after the roof collapsed in January. The first game in Hartford was January 19th 1980 vs LA.

The first Buffalo Sabres player to reach 100 points was NOT Perreault or Martin or Pierre Turgeon

… Rene Robert
I can remember quizzing a well known hockey "expert," and one of my questions was "Name the first Sabre to have 100 points in a season." He didn't know the answer, but he did know that it could not have been Perreault (who everyone would guess) or I would not have asked the question.
