First other tandem that comes to my mind is Nikolai Puchkow and Grigori Mkrtychan with Soviets and CSKA. Rare but I would guess there are few.

edit. And if we nitpick Allan Cup has been Canada´s amateur championship when NHL really isn´t national league. So that makes some tandems that obviously won both. But yeah its nitpicking. edit.2 To clarify in early years Canada sent the Allan Cup winner team to represent the country to WHC and OG.

edit 3. :) Though it wasn´t two goalie system at those times even two goalies may have played in tournament.

In the 85-86 season Wayne Gretzky set the all time record for points in a season with 215 in 80 games.

He only played 3 games in which he didn't get a point : 10th game against Buffalo, 50th game against Chicago and 69th game against Buffalo.

In 40 of the 80 games he has at least 3 points.
In 21 he has four, or more.

He has more assists than anyone else has points.

He broke his own record of 212 with 3 assists in the 2nd last game of the year a day after he has root canal surgery.

The Gretzky stat I hadn't realized until recently -- which somehow amazed even me -- is that in 1983-84, 1984-85, and 1985-86 cumulatively, Wayne scored three or more points in a game in exactly 50% of the games. This isn't by average, but game by game.

In other words, if you bought a tixket to see the Oilers any day in those three years, there was a fifty percent chance Gretzky would get three points or more that night.

The Canada Cup tournament occurred in 1976, 1981, 1984, 1987, and 1991.

The player with the most penalty-minutes in the history of the tournament is Steve Smith, who played only 8 games.

Between 46-47 and 57-58 Chicago missed the playoffs 12 of 13 times and attendance was dwindling so much that they sometimes had home games played in different cities.

Since WW2 only Buddy O'Connor and Taylor Hall have won the Hart and never received any Hart votes in any other season in their careers other than the year they won.

Jose Theodore thanks you for this post. (He got a few Hart votes in 2004 - but none for the Vezina).

Mike Bossy was the 2nd player to ever score 50 goals in 50 games.

In his 50th game he scored his 2nd goal of the game with less then 2 minutes remaining to accomplish the feat.

The Vancouver Canucks went from 1976-77 to 1990-91 (inclusive--15 straight seasons) without finishing .500. They did manage a Cup Final in there, though.

Might have been mentioned in another thread but Leon Draisaitl is the first Hart Trophy winner with a negative plus/minus since they started tracking the stat in 1959-60.

Here's how Draisaitl's season went, plus/minus-wise:

October / November / January / February / March: +17
December: -24

In the 85/86 Conference Finals between Calgary and St Louis, Blues coach Jacques Demers was caught throwing pennies on the ice so that his players could get a rest.

When he retired in 1999, Wayne Gretzky (despite being only one man, and only playing 20 seasons for one team at a time) had scored or assisted on 1.3% of every goal in the entirety of NHL history.

In 1983-84, including playoffs, Wayne Gretzky assisted on 50 of Jari Kurri's 66 goals.

In 1984-85, including playoffs, Wayne Gretzky assisted on 71 of Jari Kurri's 90 goals.

In 1985-86, including playoffs, Wayne Gretzky assisted on 57 of Jari Kurri's 70 goals.

In 1986-87, including playoffs, Wayne Gretzky assisted on 55 of Jari Kurri's 69 goals.

In these 4 seasons in a row, Kurri scored 295 NHL goals and Gretzky assisted on 233 of then, or 79%.

How many first assists?

How many first assists?
1983-84
44 of 66
1984-85
59 of 90 (this has to be some kind of record...!)
1985-86
41 of 70
1986-87
43 of 69

Total:
187 of 295 = 63.4%

Another way to put this is that of those 295 goals those four seasons by Kurri, when Gretzky had an assist on a goal, 80% of the time it was the primary assist.
