An upgrade, but not something that really moves the needle.

It's going to come down to a game 5/7 at some point for the A's and while they'll face a Greinke, Verlander, Morton, Bieber etc while tossing out a Mike Minor or an unproven big game pitcher like Luzardo or Montas.

Sigh. Lance Lynn is a guy who would have given me hope.

yeah this trade sucks

minor has been trash this season and does nothing to help the rotation. and they give up a talented prospect in the process. awful deal

Well hopefully he's closer to last year than this year the reat of the way.

It's just a typical A's move. Kick the tires on all the big names then settle on a safe, middle of the rotation guy on an expiring contract for a couple of mid-ranked prospects. The one outlier in recent memory was getting Lester, who was the only reason (and maybe Gray) the A's even made the playoffs despite the stupid narrative that trading Cespedes killed the team.

yeah, that '14 A's team does not make the playoffs without samardzija and lester

injuries and lack of production were far more responsible for their second half collapse than trading cespedes. moss stopped hitting HRs and donaldson was playing hurt which really hurt his production
