We need defense more than offense and Namestnikov has done shit on offense for the Rangers, plus we get a pick and ge some money back, this is a win. This defense hasn't looked good so far, looks the same as last year, and Ottawa is awful, we should have shut them out.

The real value add for getting rid of Names would've been this past offseason. I understand there's a myriad of factors at play but unless we are making a big mid-season move for an expensive LHD or C (and I'm aware those opportunities can show up unannounced) this is a net loss. Not a big one, not one that's tanking the season probably, but one regardless.

No, moving Vlad Namestnikov is not waiving the white flag on your team's NHL season....he's about as 'meh' as an NHL player as it gets. Not terrible but not good anything and doesn't really stand out in anyway or fill any clear role. He's just kinda there and just doesn't suck quite as much as someone he can easily be replaced by (McKegg). That's why no one wanted him at 4M.

It's been reported by sources the Rangers have tried to trade him since the deadline last year. I can now see why there were no takers having slept on the trade a bit, the lower cap escalator has made salary cap space more valuable than it's been in recent years which also means it's been harder to move in recent years.

Rangers finally found a taker and pulled the trigger. gained cap space and some draft capital. Maybe they find a player they can acquire in a trade with this cap space they gained. They should be active at the deadline, one way or another.
