I think the Rangers would retain up to $1.75M to make it an even $4M cap hit which is perfectly fair value for M. Staal.

Not saying that i would do it, If we're going to take back a bad contract in Marc Staal then they can take back a bad contract in Jonathon Ericsson and add Tomas Jurco to the mix that should be fair enough.

lets be honest here folks this isnt a deal that helps detroit at all

this deal gets the rangers out from under a bad contract AND gives them a young forward prospect(something they need)

Staal is better than Ericsson .

Yeah no interest on Marc Staal, He's grossly over paid for what he would bring us. Would still rather go after Cam Fowler and bring him home to Detroit he serves more of a need for us then Staal does. and he's 5 years younger as well Cam Fowler.

The contracts aren't all that different. I think Staal has one more year, and his cap hit is less than a million dollars more.
