Georgie is kind of an in between- he isn't necessarily a back up but he isn't in a 1A/1B situation either. So was tough to gauge what contract he'd receive.

Regardless, I expected 2.5 so this is more or less good news. I'd trust either guy in a do or die game, so that's worth the money

Shesterkin has only played a few games so far and has already had issues staying in the line up. For all we know Georgiev could get the bulk amount of the starts. This is a good deal.

Definitely a bit high for a backup. Bigger issue is that NYR still has to re-sign Strome, DeAngelo and Lemieux(who is also going the arbitration route).

yes, they have $15 million left, but you dont want to spend it all. Nice to have some cap left for trades and such later in the year.
Luckily, the organization employs some pretty smart people to do just that. We’re in a nice cap position unless Kerry Fraser is the arbiter.

So that's like whatever Shest makes + 2.4m +5.5m for Lundqvist buyout for 2 goalies.

Still less than what Montreal is spending on their 2 goalies.

2 years mean that he can be exposed for the expansion draft which might have increased value

Come on he was out for a week with a DTD injury, and the car crash was a freak accident unrelated to hockey.
He also has not yet played 20 games as an NHL goaltender. Lots of question marks. He looks great in net but he is unproven. We also do not know Georgiev's ceiling as he is only 24 and goaltenders usually hit their prime at 27. He may still end up with the starting job.

Yeah, I hope someday Shesty will develop into an NHL level goalie. Thanks for the scouting report!

charming cheap for a player, who is worth a first + a prospect in a trade. :sarcasm:

No reason to expose him, unless Seattle wants to pay us a premium to expose him instead of Kinkaid.

If you think he is a 1-a G this deal is under priced.

He's pretty much a 1B with upside. Fair deal that can look great in the second year if he takes the next step.
If he plateaus, and this is just what he is for his entire career, it's still a fair price. (Not saying that's likely, though.)

Is Shestorkin exempted? Who would hit the games played requirement?

So, they bought out Lundqvist to save $3M, and then immediately allocate $2.4M of that for Georgiev?

Is what it is. Never thought he was anything special. Georgiev will either look like Dominik Hasek or Brian Elliot, with no in between. Either lets up 1 goal, or is good for 5 or 6 against.
