Well...that would be a step ahead of Toronto, because they still haven't made Nylander available.

Tbh nylander wont be publicly "made available" as per the leafs unless Nylander publicly asks for a trade. The second toronto says they're shopping him he starts losing value.

Leafs fans are overvaluying Nylander big time, because he wont fetch you Slavin or Hamilton straight up in a 1 vs 1 trade. Pesce isnt a sexy name or a 50 point scorer, but hes still young (23), physical and very effective in his own end. Hes also a natural rightie, something lacking badly with the Leafs right now (except for Zaitsev). Sure, the Canes would probably need to add a lil. something to balance out an hypothetical trade offer (a young forward like Gauthier, Roy or Necas) , but if they're really ALL IN for Nylander, it wont be a problem for them.

Those are not even remotely equivalent assets. Necas is worth Roy and Gauthier combined.

But I'm still not quite sure how to fit Necas into the lineup with Nylander, if he's a C, which he would have to be.

The problem for Carolina is that Dubas isn't trading Nylander.

I think everything is possible with Nylander (a re-sign or a trade), nothing should be dismissed. Even if they keep and re-sign him, the Leafs dont have the D to compete for the Stanley Cup yet. Yeah, they have a very good forward group, but they re still lacking a top-4 shut down right D. Hainsey plays his off-side and have turned 37 and Zaitsev isnt always effective in his own end. Liljegren and Durzi arent ready yet. So, the Leafs would need to look outside the organisation to get a defenseman and if its not Nylander, someone like Kapanen could be used as a trade asset for a D
