It absolutely does. The Habs have no defense and no centers. Price can play like Hasek if he wants, that defense won't help him at all and at the very worst they are bottom 7. Nobody can score goals. Habs aren't trading that AND a high end prospect for another winger.

So he is one of our better prospect, that poster said otherwise...
Other teams won't value it like a high-pick until closer to February. They aren't trading a significant asset for it blind in October. People thought the Avs, Devils and Golden Knights were the front-runners for Dahlin. All 3 made the playoffs.

How do you know this? Ever thought that the Avs, Devils and Golden Knights didn't trade their 1st so early BECAUSE it was supposed to be a high pick?

GMs are historically risk-averse. It is why we rarely see prospect for prospect challenge type trades. The closest we've seen in recent years is the Bruins/Leafs Kessel deal, which blew up in Burke's face pick wise because he believed Leafs could challenge for the playoffs. No GM is going to trade a young talent like Nylander for a pick with a highly fluctuating value unless there is a clear threat of an offer sheet. With the volatility of the NHL, a GM isn't going to gamble like that.

It may hold that type of value to the Habs and their fans, but it doesn't league wide. Trading Nylander for a pick that could end up turning on you like the Devils, Avs or Golden Knights pick last year is a significant dent to your job security. It is not firable, but it will be remembered, and give you a significantly shorter leash.

Bad trade for the Leafs, plus trying to create a Nylaner to the Habs trade that both sides will like is impossible. Toronto fans will ask for the moon and Montreal understandably won't want to give up our high pick when we could potentially just get someone better than Nylander with it

Willy to the Habs for Lord Byron, Josh Brook and a top 10 protected 2019 1st (option for Habs to give it or unprotected 2020)

Leafs get a cost controlled versatile winger with a ton of speed, surprisingly good D prospect and top draft pick

Habs get Nylander to play centre.

Do the Leafs get a life time supply of lube ? I am sure if their new gm made that trade he would be fired before the ink dried . Then there Montreal GM whom I am sure could not make a good trade if he was given a freebie
