Just sign a 6 year deal at 6-6,5. Leafs keep the aav down because they dont get the two extra years which gives them a little more flexibility with the cap the next 6 years. Nylander can then cash in big as a 28 year old ufa in 6 years either with Toronto or somewhere else and is set for life if something happens and he doesnt get another contract.

I scoff at Dregs as much as the next guy, but is it so hard to believe a player's camp went into negotiations at 8, hoping for 7 and expecting 6? That's how these things go.
