Yeah there's definitely an Aussie twang in that voice, but it doesn't sound quite proper Australian either. So I had to look into it - caller is supposedly a Robert Geller, born in England but raised in Melbourne, Australia from a young age. Started his career here then moved on to Hong Kong, Seattle and now Toronto. So there you go!

@Aussie Bruin

I love the horses and have always been a fan of the race callers

For years Suffolk Downs in Boston had a caller and you always knew who he had bet on

Jim Hannon retired and was replaced at Suffolk by this announcer

Larry Collmus is now the caller of the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup on NBC but his greatest call happened 10 years ago in New Jersey

restaurant went from 111 people reserved to 39 by the time we opened last night after restrictions put in place, unless people get their sh** together down here, we will, once again, go into a full lockdown....ugg

At the very least, those who cancelled are following protocols which is good but call my pessimistic

I'm more in favor of people that want to go out to eat go, people that are concerned, stay home. Not a fan of bankrupting all those who own restaurants or taking job away from people. The virus is what it is. There will be a vaccine that 50% of the world does not take, so this is where we are at. Time to adjust to it because it's not going anywhere.

thats how it shouldve been to begin with though. now its too late. it was rediculous to close everything down in mass like they did.
same with schools. they should be going in person 5 days a week here.
daycares and private schools do it. but not public schools?? just as many kids have covid that school remote as do kids that school in person.

That's total guesswork and hopeful thinking. Schools can't reveal who has tested positive (hippa) and reporting #s to the state is optional. We don't even know how many districts choose to report, and that's just for public schools.

Couple weeks ago the state changed their color coded system for determining when districts should go remote because rates were rising. This is what we'd look like today under their original guidance.

well our district was supposed to start hybrid nov 19th. then on nov 18th they cancelled it stating too many in school cases from special needs kids. which was a crock.
if they have a vaccine ready next month. all teachers should be required to get it, like the students are required to get flu shots. Then all schools can go back full person 5 days a week in January.

your timing is overly optimistic IMO.
If approved inthe next month to 6 weeks the supply will be extremely limited . Especially inthe case of Pfizer because of lack of stability. Lack of cold chain logistical ability. Moderna still has yet to file.
Between the two assuming those hurdles are overcome in months distribution will most likely be limited to front line medical folks and typically the military. Then high risk.
Also there will be a political free for all as to what countries get what.
I think for where we are is pretty good. But it will take many many months for vaccine to become vaccinated.

agreed, was called off from my shift last night as we had a huge amount of cancellations. Now, I don`t like missing work and hours but I also like breathing without the aid of a breathing tube. Our restaurant thankfully survived the first wave solely on the back of still offering take out service and being around for over 20 years they have a very solid core of regulars who kept ordering from us. I lost my job at the time of the first lock down because there simply wasn`t work for all of us. We re-opened and things have been going reasonably well on the weekends but during the week very low guest numbers.

So many restaurants in the downtown core simply closed, they couldn`t withstand the first wave and loss of revenue. On Friday I was very refreshed to see guests arrive with masks on prior to sitting down and putting them on if they used the restroom or moved around in the restaurant in any way but being one who takes the bus to work, was livid watching two teens get on the bus with masks on then take them off when seated. I`m typically one who stays away from any conflict but I`m a 2 puffer a day guy living on an island where cases have increased drastically and I got up and kindly asked them to put their masks back on. They gave me attitude until I told them I`m one phone call away from having the bus stop and the proper authorities coming on and kicking them off.

They put their masks on and when they were getting off the bus they gave me the finger......good lord

Should give everyone a bit of pause if there were too many cases in schools BEFORE the general population of kids went back.

Teachers want nothing more than being back in school when it’s safe to do so.

Hell baby

Be careful y’all, contrary to popular belief it can have longer term ramifications for you even if you’re young and in great shape. Hell we saw Eduardo Rodriguez miss the entire season with an inflamed heart- he only got cleared to start walking a month or two ago

The plan is for 20 million Americans to be vaccinated next month and then for 30 million each month after that. Sounds pretty good to me.

Pipe dream. The fact is they have a 30K test group for the vaccine with less than 6 months of perspective on the side effects which are more medium term for mRNA and there are serious supply chain and logistic issues to work out for those types of volumes. Also that suggests that the US get's in the first 90 days circa 100% of the global capacity of the current Pfizer and Moderna vaccine production. That isn't going to happen geopolitically.

This is the irrational exuberance period of things. I won't bother suggesting what one should do at this stage as it is very promising.. but dancing in the streets isn't one of the things I would do given the circumstances. At least not yet.

That's crazy give how young he is and being in top physical shape. But yeah, it only kills old people.

Ok, you're right. CNN is wrong. I will see if my cable company can somehow block it out so I don't accidentally quote them again. Thanks for setting everything straight.

Larry Collmus has quite a refined voice. Little unusual for a race caller but I like it - gives the finishing stretch an extra edge when he gets worked up and goes from stately to sheer excited. And that last call is terrific. Always appreciate a clever horse name!

LOVE how at work Sunday management is MORE concerned about people playing music(stupid recent rule change by the new AGM) than the 1 dude working with no mask.

I am told he is SUPPOSED to be written up

I'm not Nostradamus but let's bookmark this and come back on Valentines day. You're right, and we all win. No hard feelings and not trying to be a downer.

Drove by a neighbors house today about 1/4 mile away...must be having early thanksgiving.... about a dozen cars parked there.....sigh

An ex neighbor tested positive....was at her house the day before they said she was contagious (over 2 weeks ago.....bullet dodged)
