To me the Lindros years were the most exiting ones to watch but at the same time they were the worst years because we didn´t get our hands on the Cup. Even the Caps have finally made it with Ovechkin but of course we failed. Instead of having an era like the Pens with Lemieux / Jagr or Crosby all we managed is losing big time to NJ and Florida (!)
That didn´t taste bitter enough? How about being swept by Detroit then. The Avalanche winning a cup with the players of the Lindros trade didn´t make it feel any better.
I have the impression it has kind of cursed the organization since then.

I wouldn´t compare G to the dominance and overall impact of Lindros, but it seems as if another great Flyer won´t ever lift the Cup here.

Personally, the most bitter Flyers for me would have to be (in no particular order):

1996 - to Florida. They were clicking on all cylinders heading into this series. They would have made the finals. Could they have beaten Colorado??? Well, they would have been clear underdogs. I don't think they would have won.

2000 - Blow 3-1 lead in East Finals to NJ. No words necessary. When Lindros was KO'd in game 7 it was obvious the era had ended. The rest of the game was anti-climatic. Any other franchise Lindros would have either won game 6 or game 7 with a heroic goal,,..... but not us. And they would have beaten Dallas in the finals.

2004 - Lost game East finals to Tampa - IMO they were the best team that season but injuries to the defense caught up with them, Why did Clarke decimate the depth at the trade deadline by moving Therien? This loss really hurt. In reality this marked the end of the run that began with the dawning of the Lindros era. This was their lost chance and they fell short. At different points during this run I was convinced they were winning the cup. I never had that feeling before or since. Hurt as bad as 87

I don't include something like 87,95, 2010 because I don't view those losses as bitter to the degrees of the above.
87 - it was a heroic effort. There was nothing bitter in losing to arguably the greatest team ever.
95 - bitter loss but there was the feeling of a great new era beginning and promises of glory in the near future. It seemed like a growing pain at the time.
2010 - bitter loss but losing to a dynasty,

1996 - losing to an inferior team that benefited from the tackle football rules
2000-2004 - game 7 losses in East Finals in which I maintain they win both finals if they make it.

Those late 80s teams were always my favorite!!! Watching these videos I forgot how much I loved the 80s/90s Flyers jerseys; definitely hope they make a return some day ... perhaps as a template for the Stadium Series game.

This is one of the biggest goals of late. Had tickets to the game but had to sell them because of a change in my work schedule. I long for the excitement I had for that team. Hope it will return soon!

I was on a work project in Vegas. We were working late hours so I missed the entire game. After work I hurried to a casino in old Las Vegas? (is that the term? the old strip) Anyway I got a casino a few minutes game time prior to this goal. When Giroux scored I was jumping and screaming and nobody else was even looking at the game. The people glanced at me like they had no idea what I was going on about.

This thread makes me sad

thread makes me year for a team like the late 80's or a superstar like Lindros who gives you hope each spring...... or preferably a combination of the two.

Was convinced in 03-04 they were winning the cup. I just KNEW they were going to. Then they lost, the lockout happened and the salary cap led to the dismantling of that team.

I loved the Roenick, Hatcher and Forsberg eras even if they weren't all that successful.

Dave Poulin's SH goal with the Flyers down 2 men in the Wales Conference Final from 1985. This goal put away Quebec and we went to the Stanley Cup Final. Hak would have benched Poulin for being aggressive on a penalty kill.

My Dad was at this game and said this moment is his all time favorite. Said he's never heard anything so loud in his life.

1997 - they were heading into a buzzsaw.
Detroit was on a mission that season after years of not meeting expectations and terrible playoff defeats. I believe the turning point for them was a regular season game against Colorado. Their was a huge brawl involving Darren Mccarty beating Claude Lemiuex's ass. I think that game changed their mentality. By the time the SCF rolled around they were a machine.

I do believe that '97 team contends with '76 Montreal for the title of best ever.

You gotta wonder what would have happened if the Flyers didn't trade Forsberg for Lindros. Didn't the Avs want Brind'armour instead? Heck if the trade never went down the Flyers might have been better off to begin with.

I have no regrets.

As I said earlier, Lindros was an absolute unit.

Additionally I am not convinced they'd be able to build a more complete team around d Forsberg than they did around Lindros.

It was definitely beneficial for Colorado but sans Forsberg they pretty much parlayed the other pieces in to bigger pieces with other trades over time. Roy being the most noteworthy.

That’s why it’s kind of tough to really say even with hindsight. Lindros & Forsberg were basically a wash to me. Forsberg started in the NHL later than Lindros & retired a little bit later too but he was always dealing with injuries throughout his career & hung them up pretty early too.

The line brawl against toronto is where i developed a level of hate for tie domi no player since has been able to contend with. Eric lindros making his hart trophy speach gave me such hope. Mike richards turning the penalty kill into the shorthanded challenge. Sami kaps getting annihilated only to make it to the bench for jr to score. So many great moments so many great teams. Why can't i get behind This team?
