Thanks for the recap, Sam, it’s an amazing list. It is also kind of amazing to think at the end of last season into June the question was which 3 of the 4 desirable OAs would the team keep? Select from Propp, King, Struthers and Chenier. And here we are, a little over 6 months later, and the team has dispatched all 4.

Re: Christian Stevens: GM Adam Dennis says, “he was coveted by a lot of OHL teams coming in his OHL draft year. He probably gets drafted quite a bit higher if he’s not committed to an NCAA program, but he is committed to the North Bay Battalion. He was set to play in the CJHL top prospects game with the Whitby Fury, but he’s going to be coming up here instead.”

Transactions as per Whitby Fury website:

Whitby

01/10/20

DEL Stevens, Christian (F) traded to team in different league

Whitby

01/04/20

DEL Stevens, Christian (F) placed on league suspension

Whitby

11/13/19

DEL Stevens, Christian (F) placed on league suspension

Not totally sure of the GM’s excitement level for this player. He was just under 1 point per game in Minor Midget, well under 1st year Tier 2 and still under in 2nd year. In addition, he has 87PIM and 2 suspensions in a half season. Doesn’t the team already have enough low scoring former Tier 2 players? Maybe he will be the "sandpaper' component.

It remains to be seen what kind of player he is but the fact he broke a college commitment to come play for the worst place OHL team is a positive sign for this new management.
College teams break their commitments all the time . They typically commit to kids major Bantam ahead of the OHL minor m draft . Looking at his production after Bantam smells like that's what happened here .

Notes from Mondays’ workout:

The Avery Winslow era is under way, he was on ice today wearing helmet #8. The Christian Stevens era will begin tomorrow. David Campbell has been made a part of the roster and the team will carry 8D, 13F for the balance of the season. That means 3 skaters will sit out each game, whether this will be distributed evenly remains to be seen. It might be interesting to see who the first 3 are.

GM Dennis was evaluating up close as he was on ice with the coaches. Coach Houlder was drawing up schemes on the little board thing attached to the glass and then directed a group in a drill, first time I have seen this. The team was still in stealth colours, half in black, half in gray, equal (approx.) number of D and F in each.

Pacey might be having flashbacks of last year

just realized that Ryan Thompson is the son of Derek Thompson who played for the Sudbury Wolves, how is he doing?

My guess for first 3 scratches are:
Mayotte
Winslow
Stevens

Mayotte, it's his turn.
Let Winslow and Stevens get their start against a weaker opponent in Niagara rather than Kitchener.

With a reasonably even distribution of the scratches for each game, the team might be able to attain what should be their 2 goals for the remainder of the season: 1) give an opportunity to all players, especially the younger ones, to see decent amounts of ice time as this will help lead to 2) a new way of looking at the current calendar year -- 20th in ’20 (would this make a decent t-shirt logo?).

Pre Butler we were a bad team. Post Butler we are a bad team , while many (me included) were pumped to be rid of the old, out date Tyrant, the future still has a few questions . Yes we are young and have built up a good supply of picks and get the first pick over all this spring , but a few things to consider , one the new Director of scouting is the owner son , with little to no hockey background ( not feelin this at all) , now there seems to be a couple of scouts with a good hockey knowledge based on their years in the field , but for the most part they send reports to the Director of scouting who reports to the GM. ( and not the owner I hope) . The GM while he has been busy on the trade front , we wont know the impact of those trades for some time (don't confuse activity with sound player acquisition) he is headed for his first draft as GM and its not like he done his apprenticeship under Mark Hunter . Picking at # 1 is easy the girl at he beer cart could do that , but its the picks after that that are critical (we have seen enough bad ones to know) to build a winner . Is our coaching good enough to attract the good players and rebuild a winner ? in a lot of ways coaching a bad hockey team (Flint and N Bay) is easy, there is little expectations to win . You cant fluke a rebuild, so do we have the hockey operation people in place to get it right ?
