No offense is meant if you feel I have omitted a guy you think is in the running, but based on these boards, these 5 appear to be the frontrunners at this point. I was bored this morning waiting for the game to start so here you go:

Basically the higher up vertically you are, the larger (as a percentage) your contribution is to your team's overall goals for. The further you go to the right, the higher your proportion of goals and primary assists is to your overall points. In other words, if you are far to the left, you have a lot of secondary assists. The middle of the circle is where you would be on the x and y axis.

The bigger your circle is, the more points you have scored so far this year. Numbers are below.

Karlsson should not be anywhere near the Norris Trophy as long as he is the worst defensive defenseman in the NHL.

Giordano's been a part of 45% of his team's offense during his 34 games played. He's also second on the Flames in scoring despite having missed 18 games so far. He's also managed to have an even +/- on one of the worst teams in the league.

Anyways I'm not even a Flames fan but I just thought I'd throw it out there as he's having a pretty monster year that's going under the radar.

Erik Karlsson shouldn't even be in the top 5 for voting of the Norris Trophy.

I'd go with Duncan Keith as the winner with PK Subban and Alex Pietrangelo rounding out the nominations.

I think this is a good part of the trophy, but the defensive part isn't accounted for. Keith is not only the best offensive D-man on his team, but he's the best defensive D-man too. For that reason I think he'll win it.

As it stands, it's Keith's this year.

Offense gets too much of a focus of this award anymore...Keith's offense is top tier amongst defenseman, but more importantly he's also phenomenal defensively. Karlsson is not phenomenal defensively.

Karlsson can score points eh?

Still not the best overall defenseman. Great player, but just has a few big weaknesses in his game he needs to iron out before I can call him top five. Regardless of what the media or offensive (in a Norris related thread) stats say.

Pietro and Keith I'd much rather have IMO.

I don't disagree with the latter, but is Keith really "phenomenal" defensively? He's allowed the most goals against per 60 of every defenseman on his team, despite being 4th on his team in QoC and playing with Seabrook.

Those stats aren't perfect by any means, but if Keith was playing "phenomenal" defensively, I would expect him to fare a bit better than that, wouldn't you?

Not that that's the topic of this thread anyway.

At this point Keith is going to win by a landslide. Karlsson would be slightly ahead if he as playing average defense out there, too bad hes been atrocious in his own end.

I haven't looked at the numbers recently so I'm genuinely asking this.

What does their deployment and usage look like in terms of qualcomp, zonestarts and qualteam?

Also, is the graph in the OP based on ES only or does it include all aspects of play? How much does the data change if you do the opposite?

You'd have to check yourself on that one.

All aspects of play. Maybe I will break out PP and ES if I get bored in the near future.

Indeed. (Size of bubble represents offensive zone start percentage; ideally would like someone to be in the bottom right corner as a small circle)

Keith gets an awful lot of credit on these boards considering the tale the two charts above tell.
