Rod is a physical, hard working winger who likes to get his nose dirty and get under the skin of his opponent. He drives the net and stands up for his teammates. Willing to do whatever is needed to get the win, he is a tireless fore checker and defensively responsible. Does not possess high end offensive upside. (November 2013)

A Swiss forward who plays a North American style mixing plenty of grit and mixing it with some skill. He forechecks hard, and wins a lot of board battles. Will drive the net when he does have the puck on his stick. His skating speed is decent, but his edgework and agility are very good which make him very slippery in the offensive zone. Already well-developped in terms of his two-way game.

Noah Rod was certainly the most improved player in Switzerland this season. He started the season with an outside chance of making the Geneva's men's team. He then got the chance and made his debut, off his natural position on the wing and saw only limited ice time. He then grew into his role and at the end of the season, including the playoffs, Rod centered the third line and saw a regular shift with the team. A responsible two-way forward, Rod displays good acceleration and a solid skill set, although he needs to work on his athleticism to improve his mobility and become a more effective forward. Rod's progress of Rod earned him a contract with the pro team for the upcoming season.

THW NHL Draft guru calls 2014 Swiss draft prospect Noah Rod a hybrid of Brendan Gallagher, Chris Kelly and Chris Kunitz.

The Crazy Man – Noah Rod just goes and does his business and his business is to win. He thrives in key situations; he sticks up for his teammates and he can drive the other team “crazyâ€.

Offense – Noah is more offensively gifted as a checking line player. It is not his skills as such that impress; it is more how he uses them in an all effort to win that makes him stand out from the crowd.

Compete – Noah just gives that all out energy and compete needed to win. He may not be your best player but he can be your most effective player. In short, he will do almost do anything he can to win and loves to irritate the opposing team.

Draft placement – NHL Central Scouting has Noah in the fifth round but they did not see his dominant performance at the 2014 U18 WJC in Finland when they did their rankings. While Noah just provides average size and checking line offense, he does provide energy, compete, defense and an unrelenting style of play that wins over coaches and scouts alike in a heartbeat. He is that player that winning teams have – that Brendan Gallagher type drive to the net, that Chris Kelly checking, that willingness to do what it takes to win of a Chris Kunitz, the ability to drive another team crazy like PK Subban. I can see no reason why Noah should not be at least be a second rounder. Bottom line, Noah will make your team better.

From his coach, Chris McSorley, Noah Rod is the "complete package between technical, intelligence, toughness and competitiveness ". He has a "bright future." Matte Louis, assistant coach, said he evokes "a race horse, a dog enraged that he should rather seek to calm down. " To complete the sketch, borrow the eyes of Patrick Emond, the that accompanied its evolution during three years with the Junior Elite: "He sometimes gives the impression of being arrogant, but no, he just has a big confidence. It does not pose the question of whether it can succeed or not. He always wants to win, be the first. " What else to celebrate on the opponent? "He does not fear the corners, he likes when it brews, smiled Patrick Emond. More Camonte in intensity, the more one is in his court school. There are crashing under the pressure. It is the opposite. " Noah Rod, who scored three points in 28 games of the season regular, comes to mark all 4 playoff games.
Translated (poorly) from interviews with his coaches in Geneva: http://www.1905.ch/site/index.php/archives-presse/1915-noah-rod-je-suis-vite-chaud-le-matin

Good balanced power wing prospect who works hard and is very tough to play against because he comes after you. Far from polished on the offensive side but sees the attack zone well has some skill and a good hard shot. Won’t wow you with dazzling moves but has a two gears and once going, makes his presence felt. A North-South guy who drives on the forceheck and is strong on the biscuit when he gets it back, and is hard to contain. Needs plenty of refinement but does have a 3 zone game and commitment but may find a place as a complimentary player. Had a good U-18 tourney fro the Swiss team.

Some project him as a bottom-six forward at the NHL level, due to his biggest assets being his hardworking nature, his ability to assimilate himself into almost any role or forward position and because of his excellent penalty-killing skills. However, although he doesn’t have the most natural offensive touch around the net, his foot speed should allow him to consistently generate chances. Much of how he fits in at the NHL level may depend on how he can learn to turn those chances into goals. Bottom-line, though, is that is a fairly safe pick in that he should be able to fill some role at the NHL level.

Burke said: “Very hard-nosed, competitive guy. He’s playing with men over there (in the Swiss league), and he did pretty well in a men’s league over there at a young age.”

"He pressures the puck a lot, and he finishes off people," Burke said. "He jolts you."

This guy pretty much screams the Dave Bolland prototype to me. If he becomes the key piece in a high end shutdown line that we can send out there against a top line without even questioning it, I'll consider it a great success.

Was a little skeptical when they used words like "plays a north american game" and "willing to do whatever it takes to win," but after reading more on him I like it. You have to get players like this before they reach ufa age (and are already declining).

at 1:30 you can breefly see his sick shooutout (game winning shootout of the series to go to the semi)

the sentence "on the road again" is not mistakenly chosen, this young forward really impressed and I think is not only gritty but has slick hands.

He signed a 4-year deal with Geneva a month ago, so I hope he stays here at least a couple of years to develop his game and get stronger. Then he could cross the pond, but he's nothing close to an NHL player as of yet.
