Morris County, NJ
:devils
Patrick Laine
Tyler Johnson

-In a vacuum, NJD definitely wins in value, but given the circumstances, the Devils “weaponize” their cap space, but they give up two of their top prospects to acquire Laine.

:bolts
2021 NYI 2nd Round Pick (via NJ)
2021 WPG 3rd Round Pick

-TBL creates room to sign 1-2 of the 3 RFA’s they have now that they would have over 7m in cap space, also recouping 2 decent picks.

:jets
Ty Smith
Jesper Boqvist
Fabian Zetterlund
TBL 2021 First Round Pick

-WPG receives a top 4 potential D prospect who should be NHL ready this coming season, a solid F prospect with middle 6 winger potential, and TBL’s 1st in what should be a strong draft for defensemen.

Gee. Another trade where the Devils give up squat and get a top, young, player. When Smith turns into something wake us.

That proposal is a joke. Fixed it for ya

WPG

Hughes
Boqvist
TBL 1st

NJD

Johnson
Laine

TBL

NJD 2nd
WPG 3rd

Laine IS a good player already and Hughes might be one day but he had a disappointing rookie season.

winnipeg wouldn't get offered hughes as a return for laine. the intent in trading for laine is to get a linemate for hughes. if winnipeg insists on hughes as the return, it defeats the purpose and there is no trade for laine to nj.

and your proposal isn't better. hughes on elc has similar or more value than laine looking for a big raise. if nj gives up hughes for laine, there is no first and boqvist attached to it.

So NJD want a 30+ goal scorer w/ 45-50 goal potential in the NHL for Boqvist? A failed prospect who gets 3W time??

If you want a 1W you give up a good NHL player or a great prospect. Hischier plus as he is developing into a 2/3C OR Hughes plus as he has potential but needs a lot of grooming.

Its that simple

i am not saying the op is fair for winnipeg. i just say your counter doesn't make sense for nj.

boqvist is not a failed prospect, he is simply a prospect, you may like or not. his contract status demanded him to be either in the nhl or shl at the start of last season and he wasn't ready for the nhl. once he could join the ahl team, he was send down. he may turn into a middle 6 winger or might not.

but trading hughes for laine is a no. the devils drafted holtz, who could become his trigger man. the devils traded for foote, who could be the big physical winger, which complements him. better wait for those to develop, than trade hughes.

Hey, what a deal for the Jets!

You mean to say they can turn Patrick Laine and a third-round draft pick into a 20 y.o. junior, two 21 y.o. AHLers, and the defending Stanley Cup champion's 2021 first-round draft pick?

That is really stupendous. Just stupendous.

I think the Jets' new advisor on this is Helen Waite.

If you want to hear back from the Jets, you can go to Helen Waite.

Original proposal bad. People saying it would take Hughes + + are out to lunch in their fantasy land...
