Edmonton is playing with fire.

1 Koskinen injury and that can be curtains for their season.

they are also going to tire Koskinen to the ground.

I know Markstrom rejected them and this was sorta their backup plan but how Holland thought a Koskinen / Smith duo was suffice is beyond me.

To be fair, if any team loses their top two goalies, it's probably curtains for their season.

But the risk was greater seeing that one of those goalies is 38 yrs old and clearly on a consistent decline over the last several years.

if Oiler nation doesn’t hold Holland responsible for going into a season w. Koskinen/Smith then so be it and they deserve this situation.

Adding a power play specialist like Barrie to an already historic power play unit that finished 1st seems redundant. You’d think that 3.5 mil could have been used on a goalie or at least weaponize the cap space to trade for a goalie. But thats me thinking out loud.

He struck out on Markstrom, Holtby and Greiss before circling back to Barrie, so it wasn't because of a lack of effort.

Smith isn't great, but he's far from someone who is injury prone. Not really Holland's fault he didn't foresee him getting a mysterious injury one day into the season.

Dell is a great backup. He's not going to steal games but he will compete. San Jose's defence is non existent so he should do a little better on the devil's

I wonder if the Devils would be interested in a pick for him from the Oilers.

Unless it's a 1st or 2nd NJ doesn't need picks, they have one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL and can get a haul for Palmieri and/or Gusev if they decided to sell at the deadline.

What they need is a goalie. Crawford was supposed to be a steady 1b guy for the next two years until he pulled the rug out from under them 5 days before the season started. Without a guy to get some quality starts they either have to ride Blackwood to the point of exhaustion or essentially forfeit games by playing Wedgewood or Comrie who are not really NHL goalies.

Now they can put Comrie back on waivers when his 14 days of quarantine are up, then the Jets will claim him and he goes right back to quarantine.

Is it going be where goalies go on waivers and continue to be picked by other teams ?

If so should be a very tough times for these goalies and interesting year in nhl
some of them never ever getting out of quarantine.

Why did they just waive Dell instead of try and move him for assets?

or does this mean nobody was willing to pay. Seems odd

Now the Devils will waive Comrie, whom the Jets will probably reclaim to get Forsberg off their active roster and Edmonton likely gets Forsberg back on their taxi squad. Wonder if this all plays out again in some fashion a month or two down the road when the current crop of waiver exemptions expire?

LA also needs another third goalie IRC because the Oilers took theirs . So they might take Comrie before they can take Grosenik back . This might still go on for a while.

Why didn't LA just take Dell then? They had a higher priority than NJ.

They need a third guy not a backup . They wouldn't be able to keep Dell on the roster either. LA is going to pick someone up to be on the taxi squad at some point.

I noticed that CapFriendly shows Dell as one of four "NHL non-roster" players on the Devils.

What is an NHL non-roster player? The Devils have four of them -- Dell, Mackenzie Blackwood, Jesper Bratt and Sami Vatanen -- in addition to 22 players on their active roster, 1 player on the injured reserve and five players on their taxi squad.

Are teams allowed to carry 26 players in addition to IR, LTIR and the taxi squad this season?
