Even if the return has ended being underwhelming, both the Burrows and Hansen deals were at least the *kind* of deals you want Benning to make; old, expiring players for youngsters. I mean, obviously the guys they targeted didn't work out, but the moves themselves were applauded because they actually had rebuilding logic behind them. Now if only they'd take the step of actually targeting decent players, we might get somewhere. Being bad doesn't increase the likelihood of your picks from the lower round of the draft working out, but normally it increases the gm of a bad team's desire to get more draft picks. You know, seeing as how they're where you get the majority of NHL players.
