or a top six (in no order)

Stafford - MP - Wheeler
Laine - Scheifele - Ehlers

... not saying it is optimal. We miss Little...

That's exactly the problem

I happen to think this top 6 looks excellent:
Perreault Scheifele Wheeler
Laine Little Ehlers

Laine and Ehlers need to be together.
Connor should be on a line with Wheeler

Laine wheeler scheif and Ehlers on and who ever as D on the power play

That's okay for the time being til Connor is ready for top 6
Play

LSE is our future number 1 line. Let's get that chemistry going. Stop wasting time trying to fill the gaps by hurting our top line

Carry on...

You can't make me.

;)

Ehlers has been quiet. I predict he'll put a few points up tonight against the Stars. In fact, many players have been quiet, other than the big three of Scheif, Wheels, and Laine.

It can't be easy to get demoted from the top line before even playing a full game together. Especially considering he spent a good portion of last season "earning his spot" next to Burmi and Thorbs. That would make me pretty deflated too.

Especially since up until that point in the game he was the best player on that line

I think you're underselling Ehlers' fortitude - he'll be fine. He's strong enough and smart enough offensively that he should be able to add to whatever line he's on.

That might be true. My biggest issue is really him and Staff infection on the same line. I think Stafford brings down whichever top 6 line he is on. I'd prefer him on the 3rd.

Yes. Even Ehlers - Perreault - Armia would be better, IMO.

I always dismissed it as Leaf fans' bias, but looking at the season so far, is it possible that W. Nylander is better than Ehlers? Obviously Ehlers will heat up, but Nylander has been great so far.

Leaf fan here legitimately curious about the chemistry guys like Ehlers, Laine and (especially) Connor have with fellow Jets players. I think Little being injured may have affected who plays with who.
As for the Leafs, Matthews and Nylander work really well with each other (hence the chemistry question) whereas Marner is making the best of some under performing vets. Where Laine is offered top minutes, chances are that the right fit could make Ehlers a more prominent scorer.

Jets vets surrounding rookies (Wheeler, perrault and even scheifele with some aspects of his game) have struggled in last couple of games. Not really sure how Laine fits into the top line as his mostly searching for open space and waiting for his chance to shoot. First line hasn't really dominated in the o-zone, but I think it's because of the vets under performing in puck battles. Ehlers is quite good when his on ice and would benefit of playing with better players. Don't think it would hurt to try him with Scheif and Wheeler.

I have been a little resistant towards moving Armia up the depth chart but I think it is time. His game just keeps getting better. First it was defence, then PK and forecheck, now he is creating offensive chances. If Matthias could have converted on some of the setups Armia gave him last night we win that game.

Stafford continues to do nothing. Move him down and Armia up.

Glad you've seen the light.
Last game was his best for this organization so far but he has played well since last season. He has PKed most of his career and he will put up points if playing with the right players.

I think anything is possible:) but it's obviously very easy to claim when Nylander is on fire and Ehlers isn't. At the end of last year it was opposite and most neutral fans would have sided with Nik.

Never completely got the comparison. Except for them being drafted the same year and one spot apart there really isn't that much that's similar in the way they play the game. Yes, they are both offensive "stars" but how they utilize their skills is very different.

I think it's way to soon to say anything but Ehlers = Nylander

It's possible Nylander is better (isn't he supposed to be, wasn't he drafted higher?) or it may all be situational. I'd suggest Ehlers is playing much better defensive hockey at the moment than is Nylander. It's also probably something of a reflection of usage and who the lines are getting put out against. Points will come for Ehlers. Ask again at the end of the year.

I'd be thrilled if Nylander was a Jet. Pretty much as thrilled as I am that Ehlers is a Jet. Equally so, one might say.

Yeah. And Laine isn't even playing well in 5on5.

If this continues long (say 3-4 months) don't be suprised if in next summer Ehlers makes a trade request.

Biggest beneficiary of the Stafford injury will be Ehlers and Perreault. I expect production as soon as tonight . Drew kills lines when he isn't scoring.

Nyla der was drafted one spot ahead of Ehlers. But in a draft do over I'd sure tale Larkin or Pastrnak over Ehlers who both went later!

Would he be better if he was bigger? probably

Is it fair to criticize him for not growing more? I don't think so

Right or wrong in today's NHL size still is a factor. Unless you've got unbelievable Johnny hockey or Patty Kane skills! Ehlers doesn't have them!
