He would make a lot more money in Russia no?
He currently makes 80M rubles in the KHL. That's 1.2M USD. The highest salary in the KHL right now is 2.8M.

So no.

Also, if he played in the playoffs his one-year ELC would get burnt, meaning he'd make extra cash from playing in the playoffs this year, and a better paid contract next season.

and it's so fresh in your memory you can't recall his name.

McPhee actually started a trend with European UFAs. Trial periods lead to terminated contracts, and they go back to their old league without missing a beat. What was a bizarre situation last year between McPhee, Gallant and Shipachyov has now become the norm.

Vegas is rumored to have an agreement with Tkachyov at the end of his season, so I'm not sure how much Shipachyov has turned Russians off of the Golden Knights. His comments weren't really that scathing either.
Signing a player to a two year deal worth $9 million doesn't sound like an experiment. It sounds like Vegas believed in him. A player who was one of the top scorers in the KHL. To me this is the big difference with Shipachyov as opposed to the other undrafted Euro free agents.

Lets not forget that $1m in the NHL equals 300-350k in the bank where $1m in the KHL equals $870k in the bank.

Depends on where you play, no? Taxes and all.

But, well, lets say he doesn't play during the playoffs, so he's under an ELC next season, he would more than likely achieve some perfomance bonuses.

They already need to clear 3-4 mil as it is...

Eakin, Reaves, Holden and Clarkson insured cap hit.

Besides Eakin that isn't so much bad turnover on the roster. But with Glass or Haula Eakin may need to go anyway.

Maybe you don't sign Bellemare and give Quinney or someone 4C.

Colin Miller looks like he is on the way out. Engelland probably signs for less, Hague, Whitecloud and Schuldt cost less.

I don’t know how good Gusev would be at VGK, not the best team for a skiller...

The change in system alone will be huge. KHL to NHL playoff hockey is night and day. Will help on the PP at least.
